Filling His Boots While It Lasts…

No, not Tony Blair and his appallingly written book. Dr Vall Rasaratnam:
Dr Vall Rasaratnam has been appointed Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust’s first energy and sustainability manager.
Well, I’m sure in an age of cutbacks and shortages, they can’t possibly do without one of those

The staff, needless to say, are of a different opinion:
But staff said the role, which will see Dr Rasaratnam encourage staff to turn off lights and to wear warm clothes in winter, is a waste of money.
And they aren’t wrong, are they?

So, how much is this position costing the taxpayer?
The trust refused to reveal how much the new role will cost.
You can take that to mean ‘A lot…’ then.
One member of nursing staff at Colchester General Hospital, who did not want to be named, said: “It is absolutely ridiculous. We need more nursing staff, not another manager.

We don’t know what half these managers do anyway – we need staff to help the patients.
The chap himself is somewhat unrepentant, and why not? Who wants to deal with all those icky diseases and sick people when you can sit in a comfortable office telling grandmothers to suck eggs instead?
Dr Rasaratnam hopes to help the trust reduce its carbon emissions by 10 per cent in the next year through a range of measures, including increasing its energy efficiency, recycling levels and encouraging more staff to car share or travel by bus or bike to work.
Sounds like money for old rope to me…
Dr Rasaratnam said: “Part of my job will be to change the culture, so more people take simple measures, such as switching off unnecessary lighting, turning down thermostats and wearing more clothing in winter and not leaving mobile phone chargers switched on.

“These will make a significant contribution to cutting carbon emissions, and I will also lead on technical initiatives designed to reduce energy use, emissions and waste.”
That’s nice for you. But since the wheels are coming off the carbon emission scam left right and centre, don’t expect to be doing it for too long, eh?

  2. This is why government-run things are such a joke. A hospital is there to treat the sick at the best value. That's all it should do, and all this other crap just gets in the way.

I mean, what difference does it make if a hospital recycles or not? Do they get a saving? No. So stop doing that and just throw it all in a big skip somewhere.

“ ...don’t expect to be doing it for too long, eh?”

The reality of the AGW scam won’t make any difference; the objective of government is to waste our money, and if they can rub our noses in it at the same time so much the better.

The dear doctor will be doing his ‘job’ until the whole edifice crumbles. They’ll cut nursing staff first: ‘if it ain’t hurting, it ain’t working’.

  4. “We don’t know what half these managers do anyway –

And neither, if they are honest, do the managers.

My cousin worked for the NHS in Cardiff, we are talking six figure salary here, and she got promoted to the point that she really had no idea what she was supposed to do all day that justified that kind of money.

Well the poor dab thought she'd take her managerial skills elsewhere. So she took a post in the Welsh Assembly.

Frying pan to fire folks! She now has even less idea what the hell she is supposed to be doing, and cant wait to retire.

  5. Let's assume we believe in the new green god - how does encouraging staff to car share, take the bus etc. reduce the Hospital trust's CO2 footprint - does it pay for all staff transport to and from work?

  6. Is Dr Vall Rasaratnam a common-or-garden doctor, the sort one expects to work in a hospital; or, has he some energy / heating / building-services background that qualifies him for the post?

"Dr Rasaratnam hopes to help the trust reduce its carbon emissions by 10 per cent ..."

Note he's only there to help others (i.e. the ones who'll actually create the savings) try to make the savings. He himself will actually save ?????

'Sustainability manager' is a euphamism for a wastrel. They spend a fortune of other-people's-money on vanity projects that cost the earth; have a pay-back period that exceeds their life-expectancy; and, are lucky to save 25% of their projected 'savings'.

    Indeed.

"The reality of the AGW scam won’t make any difference; the objective of government is to waste our money..."

It's beginning to look that way...

"She now has even less idea what the hell she is supposed to be doing, and cant wait to retire."

I expect she's not alone, either?

"'Sustainability manager' is a euphamism for a wastrel. "

Or a doctor who can't be trusted to operate, but can't be dismissed..?
