Playing With Percentages

More than 50 men have been issued with ‘abduction notices’ to stop them approaching children in East Lancashire.
A bit of paper warning them that they are being watched? Why not just haul ‘em back into prison?
Police said the notices were used as a ‘shot across the bows’ by officers when there was evidence of concerning behaviour by potential abusers.

They are given when behaviour is seen to be a significant risk but falls short of a prosecution.
Ah. Right.
Officers said they had also ‘protected’ almost 200 youngsters from child sexual exploitation during the past six months Specialist team Engage in Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley, has identified 134 victims and Freedom in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale, has helped 61 victims.
That’s quite a lot. What of the offenders?
The team has also identified 44 individuals involved in sexual exploitation of which 32 were white, 11 asian and one other. Of those, 20 have been arrested, five charged and 21 abduction notices issued.

Pennine’s Freedom team, which has dedicated police, children’s services and a health nurse, has identified 13 individuals, of whom five are white and eight asian. They have made 10 arrests leading to one charge and issued 33 abduction notices.
Interesting…
Jack Straw, Blackburn MP, said: “These figures show what a great job Lancashire police is doing and the effectiveness of the Engage programme. The breakdown by ethnicity is consistent with what I’ve said all along, that the majority of perpetrators of this type of crime are white. But I maintain that there is an issue and a specific problem within some areas of the Pakistani community.”
Well, I hate to point out the bleedin’ obvious, but you’re basing that on the numbers caught doing it.

Not the numbers actually doing it.

  1. This area makes me very angry because the most diabolical things are going on in schools while all this abduction notice guff is swirling round to distract us.

Not even caught - they're just counting the men who've been sent these letters. Who knows what sort of evidence/proof is needed for the police to send one, and whether they succumb to any pressure to inflate the representation of certain groups for political reasons.

A "shot across the bows" is ALWAYS followed up by one directly into the "Target" if the target fails to immediately comply with instructions .. Otherwise, there's no point in wasting Ammo & fouling the Gun ..

Can't see Lancashire Police, or any other Force (I steadfastly refuse to refer to them as being a "service" ) for that matter risking a course of action, which might affect someone's promotion prospects ..

  4. Engage is a huge pile of crap created by Lancashire Telegraph campaigning.
The LET loves to create news rather than just reporting it.

  5. Jack Straw doesn't seem that keen on white people does he? I shouldn't complain because I am not that keen on his race either.

  6. Yet not so long ago the Daily Mail had a story out about how the Police 'hid' abuse of 60 girls by Asian takeaway workers linked to murder of 14-year-old.

Something stinks in the figures alright.

  8. If one compares the percentage of Asians caught to their repsective numbers in the population, there is a gross over-representation of our colonial friends.

  9. Well first of all, out of 13 individuals, five are white, whereas 8 are asian, does not amount to a white majority.
And on a pro-rata basis, the probability of any asian being in this category has to be another order of magnitude higher than the corresponding probability for the white population.

Finally, these instances that are being recorded, are incidents that fall short of the threshold of crime, and all the attendant rules of evidence. We should be concerned about this type of activity, lest it become a useful tactic for massaging child molestation statistics for political purposes. A ploy, to conjure up some white "prospective" sex offenders, to balance out those awfully inconvenient muslim gangs.

You're thinking of the 'grooming' accusations?

"Not even caught - they're just counting the men who've been sent these letters. Who knows what sort of evidence/proof is needed for the police to send one..."

    Good point!

"The LET loves to create news rather than just reporting it."

That's turning journalistic 'standards' on their head, then?

"We should be concerned about this type of activity, lest it become a useful tactic for massaging child molestation statistics for political purposes. "

    Indeed!

  11. XX that the majority of perpetrators of this type of crime are white.XX

Not when seen as a percentage of their particular group membership number within the entire population, they are not.

"Only three wheelchairs were stollen by people with one leg in XYZ town, but six were stolen by two legged people." Takes on a whole different light, when only five people in the town "have one leg".
