James Sorby, 22, of Cavalier Close, Cross Green, Leeds, was left close to death after being hit with a 21,000 volt shock at a power sub-station.
The impact blew part of his skull off, leaving his brain exposed.
Must…not...make…obvious...
comment…!
He said the exact detail of what happened during the incident at Skelton Grange earlier this year was unclear.
He said: "All I can remember is going into the empty warehouse.
"I definitely didn't grab the cabling with my hands because I wouldn't do something like that…
No, you look like a real genius….
He said he had not seen his three-year-old daughter until eight weeks after the incident because he was so badly injured.
He said: "When I finally got to see her, she didn't know who I was.
"It wasn't until she could smell me and hear my voice that she realised I was her dad and not some stranger.
"It was a horrible experience to realise that your own daughter didn't know who you were."
You’re from Leeds. It must be a pretty common experience, surely..?
"I definitely didn't grab the cabling with my hands because I wouldn't do something like that, but I accept I was there to steal the cabling because there was no other reason for me to be there."
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahahahahahaha!
She could recognise him by his smell? He must have worked for Walkers on their new 'Burnt Pork and TCP Flavour'.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahaha!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate how, when I occasionally wonder what the physical effects of some of the high voltage systems I've worked on in the past will have on the human body, some selfless servant of science comes along and offers themselves up as a test subject.
ReplyDeleteTheir empirical zeal is much appreciated.
Your claws were sharp in that one, Julia. ;)
ReplyDeleteI blame the Germans for bombing Cross Green. It is not exactly the stockbroker belt but it is central to the rail network. Come to think of it, most of Cross Green is the rail network. Naturally, our copper barons are resident here but many have a second home in Armley.
ReplyDeleteTrying to feel sorry for him....
ReplyDelete....no, I really am...
...still trying....
No. Can't. Ah well.
Excellent disscetion (although the 22kV did a pretty good job to start with).
ReplyDeleteIt cost tens of thousands to patch this pikey but everyone's after the smokers these days.
To which group, I submit, he now belongs, fags or not.
I could be a right bastard and say that I hope that his daughter will be bullied at school. I don't - it's not her fault - but she will - and it was his Volt alone.
Similar happened to a yob where I worked. He went on to a building site to cause damage and tried to hammer a nail into a water pipe. Except that it was not a water pipe but a power cable.
ReplyDeleteThe obvious happened and he was lucky to get away with facial burns
Maybe I'm missing something here.....but how did he intend to steal the cable without touching it???
ReplyDelete"... offers themselves up as a test subject."
ReplyDeleteIt's probably all he's good for...
"It cost tens of thousands to patch this pikey but everyone's after the smokers these days."
:D
" Except that it was not a water pipe but a power cable."
Whoops!
"Maybe I'm missing something here.....but how did he intend to steal the cable without touching it???"
Clearly, not the brightest spark was he? Except for that one time, for about a millisecond.
Today, messing with the electrical infrastructure is like dumping a canister of cyanide in a reservoir. I think copper theft should be treated on the table of sentencing tariffs roughly alongside gang rape. This muppet could easily have killed people. Patch him up, pat him on the head, and then burn him at the stake.
ReplyDelete"You’re from Leeds. It must be a pretty common experience, surely..?"
ReplyDeleteNaughty, naughty JuliaM.
You aren't surely being unkind to this poor, thoroughly deprived person because of his birthplace and the fact that most of Leeds is peopled with illegitimates, or as we used to call them, bastards?
He was obviously trying to teleport the cable out of the substation as it was obviously not doing anuything, as it was just lying there; like, innit!
Just occasionaly a thieving bastard like this guy actually gets the punishment he deserves.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a headline writer:
ReplyDeleteYouth Fried Stealing Cable, Thousands Of Benefit Claimants Miss Emmerdale
or better still, for the tabloids:
Yob Grab Zaps Free Telly
Another one that writes itself. You do find 'em, don't you?
