Getting Too Close To Home, Is It?

Diners at the two Michelin-starred restaurant The Ledbury in Notting Hill were attacked by looters who stormed the dining room demanding jewellery and phones.

Gangs of masked youths wearing hoodies and wielding weapons smashed through the glass front door of the restaurant, ransacking the dining room before snatching jewellery.
Oh dear. I do hope no ‘Guardian’ journalists were dining there…
Witnesses said that staff at the restaurant leapt to their defence, eventually managing to chase the intruders away with rolling pins and other kitchen implements. But a short while later the mob returned.
Well, yes. There’s a shock.
Restaurant staff ushered the stunned guests into other rooms before locking them in the wine cellar for their own safety.
One of the diners decided to blog her experience:
Louise Yang, a programmer, had gone to the restaurant with her husband Will for a night out.

Today she described the horrific scenes on her blog page, and said her wedding and engagement ring were stolen.
I’m thinking ‘Morlocks and Eloi’ at this moment…
She said the looter demanded a phone before grabbing her hand to try to "steal her rings".

She said: "The rings wouldn't come off and I just yelled at him that I'd take them off myself.

"In hindsight, now that I know that gun control is so fierce in England and he only had (a) bat, I should have held onto my rings better and maybe slugged him in the face."
Ahhh, such naivety…
Once the looters had left for a second time, the guests were let out of the wine cellar and given petits fours.
How very British!

  1. This is absolutely shocking, disgraceful and completely unacceptable.... 'The guests were led out of the cellar and given petit fours!'

Mon Dieu, what kind of culinary etiquette is this? Surely Galette des Rois is the only dessert to serve after such an experience.

  3. Petit Fours, completely unacceptable, but typical of these jumped up johnny foreigner places.

Everyone knows that the only offer made and acceptable at such times is 'a nice cup of tea.'

  4. Someone picked up on the gun control thing on her blog post and this was her response:

"I have to say, I was actually relieved that in this situation, no one had a gun, and I have to think that the UK’s strict gun control laws have something to do with it. On the flip side, I would *not* have felt safer if one of the patrons had had a gun. We aren’t happy about losing two rings with significant sentimental value, but it’s much more important that no one was seriously harmed.

    Sympathy dwindling somewhat.

This is how to behave when attacked by the ravaging hordes.

  8. Even when these sheep are shorn in their own back yard they bleat the same tune.

I thought that once progressives finally suffered the consequences of their own political narcissism they would discover reality. The opposite seems to have occured - they sink deeper into their delusion.

  10. This sums up the Tories to a tee Businesses destroyed, people made homeless and all they care about is "Good cheese!" no doubt their grandpaprents said the same when the air raid siren went off in 1940 and their main worry was how long the champers woud last?

And these are the people running the country and the banks!!!

Melvyn the Moron - apparently mistaking champers guzzling, cheese chomping, Guardianista types, for Tories.

    Oh the irony...

No, perhaps better if the robbing c***s were either shown the door empty handed at gun point or invited to take a knife to a gun fight.

Ayn Rand talked about the sanction of the victim, can there be a better example than "take my rings just don't harm anyone, even yourselves"

  12. I did like this from the Standard:

"In the corridors, mothers claimed their offspring were "good boys". Their records told a different story. Many had a long list of previous convictions."

    Nope, not for me.
