I'm Going To Be Churlish Again....

...but while this is very worthy, and all that, is it really what we send children to primary school for?
Dropped kerbs have been installed in Hill Hay Road, thanks to a recommendation by Matson junior wardens, the 'Cool Kidz Crew'.
The what..?!?
The group, from Robinswood Primary School, identified a lack of dropped kerbs for disabled access in the area during a recent estate inspection around Matson.

Terry Elcock, resident involvement officer for Gloucester City Homes, said: "I am delighted with the junior warden scheme and it is clear that working with young people will help to build stronger communities for the future."
Interestingly enough, Ofsted notes that the school is closed. Though given the glowing report from last year, I wonder if this is because it's going for academy status?
The junior warden scheme was set up by Gloucester City Homes, Gloucestershire Police Authority and Robinswood Primary School three years ago.

So far, the wardens have helped improve the area by getting new benches installed, assisting with the selection of new play equipment and making hanging baskets to help brighten up the Matson shopping parade.

Matson PCSO Chris Jenkinson has worked closely with the street wardens for the past three years.

He said: "The Cool Kidz Crew continues to work very hard to suggest improvements to their local community.

"The wardens are beginning to see their good work making a difference with this scheme and graffiti being removed throughout the community.

"It is great to see young people identifying these improvements."
*shrug* Who am I to criticise? If the parents are happy....

And yet I still can't help but feel a little bit uneasy.

  1. I hope the young girls weren't traipsing round certain areas, Julia.

  2. Young prigs being indoctrinated early, eh? Or a modern version of helping frail old women across the road? Hard to know, but.....

  3. I'm struggling to reconcile the two titles; the cringeworthy 'Cool Kidz Crew' - oh, the horror of that intrusive z! - with the distinctly sinister 'junior wardens', which sounds little more than a dropped kerb away from the likes of the Red Guard.

All very praiseworthy, I'm sure, but still...

  4. Macheath is right: anything entitled "Cool Kidz Crew" is intrinsically naff. Full-on trendy vicar naff. I suppose we should be grateful it wasn't called "Kewl Kidz Krew". They missed a trick there.

Kids can be the most dreadfully sanctimonious little shits. One problem they have in common with similarly infantile Leftists is they have no notion of opportunity cost trade-offs so everything is sooper-dooper important and has to be fixed by a grown-up. I didn't get to my age to be earnestly hectored by some jumped-up little pissant. He'll feel the flat to my hand if he tries.

  5. I dunno..."kidz" these dayz eh.

Whatever happened to "what you want and what you get are two different things".

There's no way some "kidz" thought this up all by themselves. "Kidz" are instinctively mercenary.

  6. But can the little darlings spell 'kerb' and what do they know of the origin of 'graffiti'?

I suspect that neither are relevant to the bold, exciting new ideas emerging from the estates of the UK.

(WV= dumee = oh, how true...)

And I'll bet that in his own way, Baldur von Schirach was similarly enthusiastic ..

  8. The thing that struck me was that the 'Cool Kidz Crew' are working very hard at suggesting great ways of spending other people's money.

  12. The new Red guard have started their training.
How long before they are harassing smokers in the street or folks getting "unhealthy" takeaways?

  13. "Young prigs being indoctrinated early, eh?"

That WAS indeed my first thought, I have to say...

"All very praiseworthy, I'm sure, but still..."

Yup, I've still got that 'but still...' echoing when I read this.

"Kids can be the most dreadfully sanctimonious little shits."

I know, I was one once!

"The thing that struck me was that the 'Cool Kidz Crew' are working very hard at suggesting great ways of spending other people's money."

    Oh. Yeah. That's next!

Didn't that already happen, a year or three ago?
