All Talk, No Action...

Hurrah! At last. So, what are they doing?
Nickie Aiken, the council’s cabinet member for community protection, said his death showed the need to tackle drug-related violence — a relatively new phenomenon in Pimlico.
Yes, yes, so what are you doing?
“Obviously this has really focused our minds even more and there’s definitely a will now to really push through,” she added.
OK, Nicki, we get that. It's a shame it took a death. Presumably you were just sitting on your hand before?

But I can't see any proposals. What are you doing?
“We’ve been stepping up our campaign since the autumn, but have intensified the outreach work now even more so. We’re confident we can get to grips with the problem but we can’t do this on our own — we need to get together with the parents and the community.”
And hunt down the savage little scum, slaughter them in the street & hang their bodies from Pimlico lampstandards, yes?

Or just hold lots of useless meetings with very nice tea and biscuits, glossy pamphlets and stuffed full of council wonks all earnestly agreeing 'something must be done' while they check their watches to ensure they aren't late for the train that will take them back to suburbia?
Ms Aiken said: “I very quickly realised we had a growing gang issue. I was very concerned about people living on our estates living in fear. Why should a mother sit at home waiting for her 15-year-old son to come home safely from youth club? Why should a mother of a toddler have to put up with 15-year-olds outside the window smoking skunk?”
Well, mainly it's because people like you don't have to live in the slums your barmy policies and useless ideas about 'fixing things' create, so they've no real will to fix it.

Does that answer your questions?

  1. The skiving classes have no business living in zone I, period.

Not a wise course of action if you are suffering from flatulence.

Why should a mother sit at home waiting for her 15-year-old son to come home safely from youth club?
Because she lives on a scummy estate.

Why should a mother of a toddler have to put up with 15-year-olds outside the window smoking skunk?
    Ditto.

Why does she live on a scummy estate? Why doesn't the boy's father escort their son home?

Unfortunately it doesn't change anything as the people in charge of the councils are generally useless bastards, who tend to congregate with other useless bastards and nothing gets done. They then infect other forms of public life until all we are left with is complete cretins running public services and we are taxed to the hilt to pay for crap local services run by people called Nickie.

Anyone else might think some heavy handed police action might help, perhaps carried out by a couple of companies of infantry with fixed bayonets. As you say the locals will get some nice leaflets and bugger all else, while Nickie and her ilk will think they are making some difference. Not only is West Minister divorced from reality, but so are councils now.

  3. All talk?

Cllr Aiken's professional background includes more than 20 years in public relations and corporate communications including working for the leading charity The Children's Society.

But sometimes, and rather surprisingly, publicity shy too...

Last year she complained to the local newspaper about their use of an unflattering photograph which she claims was “unsanctioned”. She said she would not speak to them again if they reproduced it. Journalists were then instructed to go through the council's press office in future. The head of Westminster Council press office? That would be Cllr Aiken's husband Alex Aiken.

However, media handled, public relations controlled; she can finally turn to lesser matters... like doing her freaking job and sorting out the problems on the streets!

  4. "....said his death showed the need to tackle drug-related violence — a relatively new phenomenon in Pimlico".

Relatively new eh? So, not unknown but now, "Town hall bosses have stepped up their war on drug gangs in Pimlico after a teenager was stabbed to death".

"This turf war going on between gangs in the Borough, pretty low key, mostly in the northern side, er, you now what I mean, so no need to get over-exercised surely?"

"Well I wouldn't say that, now we've had someone butchered on the streets of Pimlico, one of the ahem, nice ones, and it made all the papers and that ..."

"Pimlico and it made the papers - right, time for action then, or next thing you know there will be a residents action committee comprised of people living in those nice streets or some such, and they will be talking to the press and we will be on the back foot PR wise. Stick it on the agenda for the next meeting, we must nip the possibility of articles saying we have ignored this problem because it was mostly confined to the less nice areas of the borough in the bud ..."

  5. 'Why should a mother of a toddler have to put up with 15-year-olds outside the window smoking skunk?'

Because in all probability one of them is the toddler's father.

If only she knew which one...

  6. I think they (Pimlico council) should declare themselves 'a part of Burgundy and re-introduce passport controls. Return to the good old days when Margaret Rutherford ran the joint.

Keep the riff raff (Mogadishu Massive or whatever) out.

  7. "'Why should a mother of a toddler have to put up with 15-year-olds outside the window smoking skunk?'"

Indeed. She should invite them inside in the warm and dry.

Really some modern misses have no manners!

  8. "Why does she live on a scummy estate? Why doesn't the boy's father escort their son home?"

All very good questions I'm sure the progressives would rather we didn't ask!

"Not only is West Minister divorced from reality, but so are councils now."

Sadly true. Little more than guaranteed employment for arts graduates.

"But sometimes, and rather surprisingly, publicity shy too..."

Ha ha ha! Splendid! There's a whiff of the fall of the Roman empire about all this, isn't there?

"Because in all probability one of them is the toddler's father.

If only she knew which one..."

    *chuckles*
