And The ‘Angela McGlynn Award For Chutzpah’ Goes To…

The family of the teenage girl who was killed by dogs in Atherton are campaigning for a change in the law.
Yes. You read that right.

The family that knew about the dogs and their reputation and knew Jade was visiting the house and clearly didn't have any worries at all up until this happened. And now demand that laws are changed to protect people like them from their own stupid decisions.

Now, where have we heard that sort of thing before, hmm?
Jade’s family have now started an e-petition, called Justice For Jade, calling for changes in the laws governing dogs.
A family spokesman wrote on Facebook: “We want to get the law changed to make dog owners accountable for their dogs.
“At the moment the police have no powers to prosecute dog owners if their dog attacks somebody on private property. “
And just how are you going to frame a law that allows for these incidents to be considered within its scope whilst ensuring that dogs protecting their territory from those not authorised to be there aren't included?
“We want that changed, as well as regulating certain breeds of dogs so they have a licence and have the dog registered and microchipped.
“This would give police the power to confiscate vicious dogs that are unlicensed and, hopefully, we can save other family’s suffering like we have gone through.”
Oh, only ‘certain breeds’, eh? That’ll be great! Plenty of work for the likes of Dr Mugford ahead!

And, of course, that microchip & paper license will immediately render the animal docile. That’s how it works, isn't it?
If the group gets 100,000 signatures, MPs will be obliged to debate the issue in the Commons.
Well, yes. That’s apparently how we do law now.

Oh, if only we could get up a petition to ensure that the current lack of personal responsibility in society was debated in Parliament. I bet that’d be a good debate to have.

It would never get the required signatures because everyone would assume it was someone else's job to sign!

And in the interim, how about a range of "Justice for Jade" dog muzzles?

  3. Ooooh yeah... and lets call it Jade's Law

I'm sorry but unless the owner deliberately set the dogs upon the girl or even starved them so they'd attack, there is no case to answer.

Anyone signing this petition has a very poor grasp of reality in my opinion. I guess though that the family are upset that their girl was merely a victim of a tragic accident? If instead she was a victim of a crime then everything would be so much better.

Meanwhile, lets petition to make Measles illegal. A disease that has probably killed 200,000,000 people over the last century or two. Or volcanoes. Or earthquakes.

    Heh!

"... how about a range of "Justice for Jade" dog muzzles?"

    For the dogs?

I'm not sure that's unique to this petition...
