The young victim, who attends the Deanes School, in Daws Heath Road, Thundersley, is pushed, punched and dragged to the floor before being repeatedly kicked in the face during the 30 second clip, which has since been removed from video-sharing site YouTube.
The girl, who had to be taken to hospital after the assault, was thought to have been attacked because of the colour of her hair.Deanes is a good school with a good reputation, and action has been swift:
Jan Atkinson, headteacher, said: “The school is treating this incident very seriously and is taking action against those involved.
“The students concerned, including the student who uploaded the video, will not be returning to the school.”/applause. Though in the comments, cynicism reigns.
However, since it's still a school, we can't avoid the usual overreaction and punishing the innocent, can we?
A blanket ban on mobile phones has been introduced at the school in the wake of the attack.Well, of course!
In a letter to parents on Wednesday, March 27 headteacher Jan Atkinson said since September there had been two incidents involving the use of mobiles, which have brought about the decision.
From April 15 they, along with other electronic devices, will be banned completely, including during break and lunch times.
Mrs Atkinson explained the reasons for the ban are:
• Disruption to learning in lessons by a minority of students.
• Irresponsible use, including videoing others without permission, which is against the law.
• The speed at which items are posted on social networking sites.
• The need to protect, not only the reputation of the school, but more importantly individuals within our school community.
• The possibility of mobile phones being used for bullying.Oh dear. What a shame you didn't Google no 2, Mrs Atkinson. It's only 'against the law' under certain circumstances. In public, anyone is fair game.
Poor research. You're getting an 'F'.
So without the video evidence these scrotes will be able to beat the c**p out of someone without consequence from now on then. (It's not as if old bill will bother to investigate, unless it's anyone on .. anyone not white, and assuming they don't just arrest the victim).
ReplyDeleteIt couldn't be that there have been some videos uploaded of teachers not quite acting as the educators/role models we pay them as, could there? Or is that just my cynicism leaking again?
Ah yes, schools. Even though you explain a family situation and the Head behaves as though they understand, they never defend innocent parents and kids from nasty little mp's or authorities bullying or issuing penalty notices for whatever they can find to reap money from innocent people. Perhaps they get a kick out of it....?
ReplyDeleteAlthough a parent can remain loyal to the school and to friends, it seems that the authorities will continue to instruct the school and staff to lie because they make them afraid for their jobs.
Luckily, I know who my friends are and who I need to support, and being a faithful sort, I will never let them down. How an authority may twist it to state a parent is a lying lazy individual is a matter for the real people to judge whether that is true.
I think it's used against people a lot these days when they stay true and can't be bought.
It's up to the one's that know this goes on to recognise the manipulation and nastiness that needs sorting. Sad thing when you try to do the right thing and others are hell bent on bringing you down. Still, never mind.
Feral.
SSE, serves you right.
ReplyDeleteThey sent MY MONEY to my ex after over charging. He refuses to give it back. SSE have done this deliberately. Woman phoned and asked whether I was HAPPY with what they did! Told her exactly what to do, and she replied she wasn't going to take verbal abuse and was going to hang up! No verbal abuse. Just statement. So folks, no refund, no help, and guess what my dear friend, YOU are being lied to and fobbed off from a damn government that has taken the piss out of you for a number of years. YOU people are stronger than these people that are supposed to give a service. Come down on these arseholes like a ton of bricks!
I am what I am. Love me or hate me, I don't care which, but I HATE injustice for anyone.
Never say die.
Feral.
One thing I learnt from my upbringing.
ReplyDeleteThe understudy people always tell the main charcters what they want to hear yet are jealous and envious of the position those above them hold. So they lie.
For those of you out there, NEVER TRUST ANYBODY EVER!
I think that if you are on school grounds that actually counts as private property and so technically you would need permission to film there.
ReplyDeleteSo I think the head is probably able to have her ban, but not for the reason she thinks.
I presume headteacher Jan Atkinson will now be writing to the school governors, the local authority and nearby shopping centres to demand the removal of all CCTV and traffic cameras? You know, what with it being illegal.
ReplyDeleteAnd anyway, wasn't this crime only detected because of the use of mobile phones and YouTube? If it wasn't for the video appearing online the police and teachers would still be unaware that someone had been assaulted. Maybe that's why they're banning the phones... Won't someone think of the pppaaaaappperrr work!!!
Stonyground:
ReplyDeleteSorry to be OT but AP does seem to take an interest in the UK caste system, particularly the lower portions of it, so I thought that this might be of interest.
A recently released bit of sociological research has led to us being divided up into seven social classes. This apparently supercedes the traditional three, as we remember Cleese, Barker and Corbett depicting.
The new categories are:
Elite; Established middle class; Technical middle class; New affluent workers; Traditional working class; Emergent service workers; Precariat.
Having taken part in a little online survey I find that my family and I are in fact 'Established middle class'. If you knew me I think that you would then know how much faith to put in this kind of stuff.
It will be interesting to see if the word precariat finds its way into the common lexicon.
"So without the video evidence these scrotes will be able to beat the c**p out of someone without consequence from now on then..."
ReplyDeleteDamn! You might just have revealed Mrs Atkinson's cunning plan..! ;)
"I think it's used against people a lot these days when they stay true and can't be bought."
The nail that sticks up gets hammered down. T'was ever thus...
"So I think the head is probably able to have her ban, but not for the reason she thinks."
Yes, if she's specifically mentioned this, she wouldn't have left herself open to ridicule.
" Maybe that's why they're banning the phones..."
You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment... ;)
"A recently released bit of sociological research has led to us being divided up into seven social classes."
Yes, I saw that yesterday morning! Still feel the divisions they use are rather artificial & based too much on material issues.
