There Are No Words...

Surayya Khan's family has helped to launch a safety campaign urging the importance of being aware of fire risk in the kitchen.
*boggle*

Can they really claim she wasn't?!?

I am cooking tonight, and I have changed into my cooking clothes precisely to avoid any mishaps.

But you'd think he'd have barred her from the hob by now, wouldn't you? After a mishap in the litchen when he was elderly, I lovingly told my father to Stay Out Of The Bloody Kitchen.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service this week returned to the family's home to fit specialist smoke alarms, as Mr Khan suffers from hearing difficulties.

    Too late for a webcam.

Yup; Wear the full raghead garb while not paying attention, and the cold hand of Darwin reaches out....

  5. It's Got to be a Darwin Award hasn't it? It would take a heart of stone not to laugh... And I haven't got one. Still if you insist on dressing like a letter box or Cylon Stealth Warrior, well the inevitable will happen. Perhaps practice made perfect?

You really have to concede the fact that she had no-one but herself to blame, surely. She wore unsuitable clothing while cooking and set herself on fire three times and learned nothing at all from these experiences. Yes it was a tragedy as all such deaths are to all her friends and family. But really.

    Or switched to sandwiches!

"You really have to concede the fact that she had no-one but herself to blame, surely."

Clearly, a dysfunctional family, not to have stopped her!

"I thought they were allowed to remove the hijab in their own home?"

    So did I...

  10. I spot a niche market for asbestos hijabs. Maybe an entrepreneur from Peshawar will now fill it.

  11. Although this probably may not apply in this particular case, there have been instances, especially in Pakistan, of men burning women to death and then passing the crimes off as 'kitchen accidents'. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bride_burning#In_Pakistan It is also a problem in other nations such as India where women are not valued. I would sadly not be surprised if some of Labour's Islamic imports were also indulging in a spot of 'bride burning'.

Julia, you are correct the Hijab is normally allowed to be removed in the home where there are only females or trusted male relatives such as a husband present.

  13. AS far as my Turkish friends and collegues are concerned, YES!

The bin bag must only be worn when "strangers" (male) are present.

May be she only HAD one set of clothes???

  14. Surely a 'safety in the kitchen' awareness scheme need only be directed to those women who wear bejams (or whatever they are called) in the kitchen. Oh, of course, under their perfect religious system they have to wear what their lord and master husband/uncle/son tells them to. So it's their fault!
