Dissonance

Up to 1,000 people a month are victims of knife crime in London, according to alarming new statistics.
They show that around 400 a month are being injured in attacks — many of them seriously — while others are being threatened. In the first four months of the year, 11 people were murdered in knife attacks. Four teenagers have been stabbed to death so far this year.
This is terrible! We must stop and search these kids, says....Camilla Batmanjelly?!?
Camilla Batmanghelidjh, the founder of youth charity Kids Company, also said knife crime levels in London remained very high.
“We do not see any signs that the violence among young people on the street is going down.
"I expect the numbers of young people being injured is probably more than these figures show. Most young people do not turn up to medical services once they have been stabbed. Their anxiety is that police will be called and they will be identified.”
She said her charity used metal detecting knife arches to stop young people bringing knives onto their premises but staff found they were hiding weapons outside.
Well, gosh! And yet...

Police in England and Wales need to scale back their use of stop and search, the home secretary, Theresa May, is expected to tell MPs on Tuesday while announcing an overhaul of the powers.

Teresa May, folks....

  1. Provided these kids keep it in the community I think May is right. Why interfere?

  3. It would be fun to suspend stop search for a year and see what happens..

  4. Well I'm sure many firearms officers will soon be handing in their tickets after the latest nonsense about that poor young man shot dead for no good reason, except he did have guns in the car etc etc etc.

Society is getting the police force the politicians, lawyers and leftist pressure groups want.

How anyone can vote Tory next time round is beyond me...as for the other two main parties...........

How bad will it have to get to bring back properly trained and properly equipped police to simply police according to the original principles of policing and for the courts and the state to back them up with sensible sentencing and enough prisons?

    WHat was that D'Ream song?

  5. Hold up there lassie.... Now I MAY have dreamt this, but after the Toxteth riots in 81....(ish), I thought they had banned stop and search ("Sus laws") and replaced them with PACE.

WHEN did "Stop and search" creep back in???

  6. Sounds good to me. I can carry something to defend myself if needed without fear of the Stasi and they can kill each other instead of us. What's not to like.

  7. The day after Aunty Theresa tells me to not being so nasty to ethnic minorities by stopping them stabbing each other and drug dealing in general-she then wants a crackdown on Khat drugs. What community almost exclusively uses that drug? Joined up government? Or soundbites for re-election?
Don't the Tories realise that no matter how much they pander to minorities (gay marriage,no stop and search etc) they will not get any more votes as their core supporters get sick of them?

  8. Jaded, Matthew Parris in today's Times says that grass roots Tory constituency parties are no longer needed, I think the sub-text was that they are of a generation now 'out of touch' with the the left wing establishment and that the party has to ditch them. I wonder where they will go while the new establishment panders and further erodes traditional values and heritage in the pursuit of votes and that nice big fat pay rise?
CAmeron, May and the rest of them are complete fuckwits, May has lost the plot - shoe doesn't know where she is on what policy from one day to the next.

  11. "Provided these kids keep it in the community I think May is right. Why interfere?"

Because of the risks of mistaken identity and collateral damage. Plus, it ties up police and hospital resources.

    "Any figure available for pre-June 1948 ?"

Why, what happened then? *innocent face*

"Well I'm sure many firearms officers will soon be handing in their tickets after the latest nonsense about that poor young man shot dead for no good reason, except he did have guns in the car etc etc etc."

    I wouldn't blame them.

  12. "WHEN did "Stop and search" creep back in???"

I don't think it was ever really ruled out, just that the reasons had to be watertight?

"Joined up government? Or soundbites for re-election?"

How many of the average voters have even heard of khat? They are more likely to worry about cannabis!

  13. XX "WHEN did "Stop and search" creep back in???"

I don't think it was ever really ruled out, just that the reasons had to be watertight? XX

    Hmm... You may be correct.

I know the "Sus law" (Suspected to be about to comit a criminal offence, stop and search) was thrown out.

Trouble is, PACE came in JUST as I transfered to the Military police, and there ANYTHING goes.... within (un)reason.

So I did not get the memo, so to speak.
