Are They In League With The PinkStinks Loons..?

But no, it's not the usual suspects, but the equally loony LimpDumbs:
Liberal Democrat politicians have taken aim at the bright new pink paint job on a former jeweller’s in Surbiton saying it spoils the building’s appearance.
The garish yellow colour scheme of the shop a few doors away is OK, I suppose?
FP Turner and Sons, which closed on Christmas Eve last year, has been painted bright pink by its new owners.
And now Liberal Democrats in Surbiton have started a petition to ask the owners to change their minds.
Why a petition? Why aren't they demanding it comply with building regu...

Oh.
But the petition admits: "Planning law cannot help as it specifically allows for the application of paint to a building, even in a conservation area."
LOL!

  1. I don't think thats true actually, the bit about being in a conservation area not prohibiting new paint schemes. There was a case of a house in a little village in Dorset or some such place that painted their house a different colour and they were told to return it to the original.

    Edit: it was Somerset: http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/68220/Wrong-colour-cottage-war

  2. What are they complaining about, at least it is painted.

Many years ago in Australia there was a ready mixed concrete company that painted all their mixer trucks bright pink and ran an advertising campaign 'think pink'. At first everyone laughed but the ads worked and business went through the roof.

Maybe that is the sort of thing the new shop owners have in mind, Even this stupid limp dim petition can only bring the place to mind when people are in the area.

  3. There was a woman in Clare in Suffolk a few years ago who was treated likewise when she painted her house pink.

  6. What about the 1960s when recent immigrants from the West Indies bought houses and painted them all sorts of colours. Admittedly in rather muted pastel shades. I thought it was wonderful. Could the LimpDebs be closet racists?

There is planning control if the building is 'Listed' or if there is an appropriately worded Article 4 Direction.

  8. And prey tell what of the Yellow one a few doors down ?

If it isn't bothering anyone, then it should not be bothering them. Although the owners might be getting a little extra advertising.

As Blueknight points out, it depends on just what is being conserved. Sometimes, colour ids not a factor in that.

I wonder what a full page advert in the local paper would cost? ;)

    There's nothing closeted about 'em!
