...said no-one, ever:
Guenther Oettinger, the EU commissioner for digital economy, said: 'We have a European film culture and we think European content should be in those programmes.'
Mr Oettinger said the Commission believed 'there should be a guaranteed share of those programmes,' and '20 per cent is a reasonable figure'.
Well, maybe this'll finally wake up the Millenials to the dangers posed by voting Remain.
The proposal still has to be approved by each EU nation's parliaments.
Not that that's going to be a problem, with Call-Me-Dave at the helm.
Will this be like the British Quota that film-goers had to suffer before the last war? I am told that numerous dire films were put out alongside American movies but were so painful to watch that people resented it when they came on. My mother told me the Quota acting was wooden, the scripts stilted and the direction inadequate, but it kept useless British thespians in work.
ReplyDeleteStill, we must bow to the EU and what may be twenty per cent will -- in the way Brussels/Berlin works -- quickly become 40 and then 60 percent.
I presume anyway that Dave, Angela and friends have no time to watch TV so it won't matter to them. (Actually, I have just thought... "Dave and Angela" would make a great TV comedy show. Basically, a useless civil servant has a domineering mother who insists that lots of foreign types come and stay in their home and eat all their food. Much hilarity is sure to ensue, and it is all European apart from the guests upstairs...)
Well knowing the "form" those behind Le Projet have, these "suggestions" will become Law whether anybody wants them or not. National Governments, Parliaments and the EUSSR Duma have no authority whatsoever over anything introduced by the Commissioners at all, ever... Presumably we can look forward to the Ministries of Love and Truth ensuring we watch "Triumph of the Will" and attend a two minute Daily Hate Session to beg "Big Junker" (Sorry, "Big Drunker") to save us from the nasty freedom loving Americans and the like.
ReplyDeleteBunny,
ReplyDeleteThere is some precedence for this La-Dolce Vita did have a pan European feel with Marcello having liking for English made goods and suits. Also Anita Eckberg another excellent European accent to the film.
However it is much more likely to be a disaster like Eldorado.
EU commissioner for digital economy
ReplyDeleteIs that the same as Obergruppenführer?
I wouldn't mind if the programs were all as good as The Singing Ringing Tree with its wicked dwarf.
ReplyDelete"My mother told me the Quota acting was wooden, the scripts stilted and the direction inadequate, but it kept useless British thespians in work."
ReplyDeleteWe still seem to be doing that today... ;)
"However it is much more likely to be a disaster like Eldorado."
Well, at least this time I won't be forced to pay for it!
"I wouldn't mind if the programs were all as good as The Singing Ringing Tree with its wicked dwarf."
I'll be happy if they bring back 'White Horses'...
