Pandering Gets You...Well, What?

Staff, students and parents at Blatchington Mill School will be consulted about plans to shift the school day by one hour.
If the plans are approved students at the school in Nevill Close, Hove, will start at 9.25am and finish at 4pm, instead of 8.30am to 3pm.
School bosses launched the consultation after being inspired by educational research suggesting early start times do not support the biological rhythms of adolescents.
So, this school was struggling and desperately needed something, anything, to raise their educational rating, no matter how daft?

Well....no:
Headteacher Ashley Harrold said: “With everything we do in school we want to take an approach of looking at research to see how to do things better for young people and families and then implement this in the school.
“We don’t think that school is the way it is and can never be changed.
“There may well be big logistical changes we could make.
“Actually, our experience is that pupils are generally quite focused in the morning and there’s not a massive issue with morning lessons. But we are looking for marginal gains to get a more harmonious learning experience.
“It may be that they’re absolutely fine now but they might be even better if we start a little bit later."
Good grief! Good luck, employers of the future!

  1. Stupid idea - if you drop the brats off after 9am you'll be late for work.

  2. This shouldn't be on the agenda for a school to investigate do on its own and then mark their own homework. After a year when their figures go down they will then try an hour earlier and after that change something else? Sounds crazy to me.

  3. I'm of the opinion that 9am is too early to stat a working day. Every night I go to bed wide awake and every morning I wake up tired.
I think the working day should start at 10 or 11 and finish accordingly.
Or flexitime. That would be nice

  4. Great idea. Gives the chav parents another hour in bed and an opportunity to get dressed before stopping at Tesco for fags and cider on the way home

Constant change is often mistaken for progress...

I suspect the catchment area is rather exclusive for this school...
