It's The Unique Way They're Funded...

...that lets them be disingenuous. Obviously:

As Twitter was quick to point out (did you think no-one would notice, David?) this is the most expensive tariff, for 4K with simultaneous stream to 4 devices. Most people are happy with £5.99 a month.

Especially since Netflix don't expect to be able to slam a single mother in clink if she refuses to take their product...

  1. I hate "funding".
It is weasley word which implies that sordid money is not involved.
And when used by pollies and "civil"servants implies that money just appears and nobody is worse off. Yes, the Money Tree. A sort of victimless crime.

  2. The comparison is being made between two different things. Netflix is movie streaming service, the BBC has a broader remit and does different things. The BBC doesn't broadcast recent movies or have a large choice of movies available on demand. It is possible to buy a push bike that costs the same or more than some motorbikes. I don't see that anything important follows from that statement. Motorbikes and pushbikes have similarities and differences and various prices, so what?

As already mentioned, nobody is forced to subscribe to Netflix on pain of fines or imprisonment so the comparison is even more off target.

  3. Quite right - it's not funding, it's investment!

  4. Typical BBC slanted and half true reporting, when will I ever be free from this state approved leach?

  5. Not to mention the lie-so-ubiquitous-it's-never-mentioned-anymore ...
We don't pay the License Fee to watch the BBC. We pay it to be graciously allowed, by the State, the privilege of operating a television set that can receive any broadcast at all.

  6. This is a useful link if you want to let off steam.

The BBC are asking people what they think of them.

  7. Thanks for the link, Stony. Duly completed but I doubt my comments will have any effect - they're so far up themselves at the BBC that they cannot conceive that criticism could be valid.

'Filthy lucre' should be the new 'funding'...

    "...it's not funding, it's investment!"

    In what..?

"This is a useful link if you want to let off steam."

Funnily enough, just after posting this, I received one of those 'Tell us what you think of us' survery from the Beeb. So... I did. 😉

"...they cannot conceive that criticism could be valid."

If they get enough of it, maybe..?
