It Does Feel Like It, Doesn't It?

Matt, there, summing up succinctly as always...

  1. An article I read recently asks why so many Conservative members preferred Boris, asking what on earth did they see in him? Frankly, the answer is that many of them fear that Truss or Sunak might be worse!

Let's not forget that although it seems that a small cadre of Conservative party members get to choose the next PM, and in practice that is so, it is really the Queen who calls the leader of the largest parliamentary party to form a government, and the party members are simply selecting a leader from a choice of 2 presented by the MPs of what is the largest party in parliament.

You might also ask why those out-of-parliament members are members in the first place, and again, many don't wholeheartedly support the actions of 'their' party, but instead, fear something worse.

  2. Leadership contest or not the Conservatives are in office (but not in power) for the next 2 years. Under these lord's of misrule we are about to see WW11 shortages and civil unrest long before the next election.

My favourite season, though recent news has somewhat marred that...

    We're about to find out!

Yes, I fear you're right. The goodwill in the country as a result of the Queen's death won't last.
