It annoys me that the council can't put a stop to what's going on more quickly.

But it surely can't surprise you?

Villagers are angry that, while strict planning controls apply to them, the travellers appear to be able to 'get away with anything' by flouting the rules. Around 120 people attended a meeting with local councillors in the village hall on Monday.
They pointed to a recent planning decision which is available to read on the council's website. The proposal was to convert a barn in a field opposite where the traveller camp now is, and also on Green Belt, into three dwellings. It was refused because the design of the proposed buildings 'would not adequately reflect the agricultural character of the area' and would be contrary to the Warrington Local Plan.
Well there's your problem, better to ask for forgiveness than permission. The travellers know this.

Maybe it's about time everyone else learned? Maybe it's time everyone else stopped playing by rules that don't appear to be applied fairly to everyone?

Those travellers own the land, land is valuable to travellers, they can't be chucked off and there is very little the council can do to prevent as many caravans as they choose to put on the plot. Once on they can do what they like and family expansion will continue forever.

A natural result of farmland not being the long term store of value it once was. Instead an inheritance tax liability. So, if you can't sell to the developers or the solar farms you sell to the travellers. We shall see how the next planning application is treated - allow this application or we sell to the travellers.

Don't forget that travellers are protected species and the normal rules of law and society don't apply to them. It will be interesting to see if the local authority can managed to wangle council tax out of them, not that rubbish collection charges will be taken into account, as the new neighbours will simply do what they normally do, and dump it on someone else's property. Shitty nappies, used sanitary towels, and human and dog shit will become familiar to the other residents.
Slightly off topic, did the travellers also buy the access route(s) to that field? Just wondering.
