Protect The Public? Nah, Costs Too Much..

It seems Police Scotland are plumbing new depths of incompetence:
The message on January 7 from a senior officer also confirmed a seized XL bully called Blue was returned to its owner – despite still not having an exemption certificate – after spending four months in kennels.

Isn't transferring one of these mutts without a certificate a crime then? Should they not investigate themselves? They seem quite happy to do so in other - equally ridiculous - circumstances, after all....

Another Sacrifice To The NHS...

...and no-one will face a single day of jail time for it:
A schizophrenic man brutally killed a Travelodge receptionist after a string of errors saw him moved into a hotel without medication, a coroner has ruled. Stephen Cole, then 32, savagely attacked Spanish national Marta Elena Vento, 27, who was working at the Travelodge in Christchurch Road, in Bournemouth, with a set of hair clippers on December 9 2020. Cole attacked her during a psychotic episode and struck her with a grooming appliance in a 42 minute assault.
Cole, described as 'completely disengaged' had been released from jail despite the reservations of a prison psychiatrist. He had left prison with just a four week supply of the antipsychotic drug that kept his condition stable. He was later seen by several health care professionals and police officers before the fatal attack.
Today, Dorset coroner Rachael Griffin ruled that Ms Vento was unlawfully killed.

But not, Reader, by those medical staff and police officers who utterly failed in their job. Of course.

He was later moved into the Travelodge on Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, with staff not told about his condition or his violent outbursts. On December 7, a police offender manager for sexual or violent offenders, visited Cole at the Travelodge and described him as 'completely disengaged' and 'almost blank'.
However, he failed to inform Travelodge staff of the danger he posed to them or guests and simply left.

I think he didn't really understand the term 'manager'.

The coroner said there was a 'systemic failure within PPG care' which created a chain of events which led to her death.

You don't say?

Benjamin Burrows, the lawyer representing the family, said: 'The clear conclusion is that Marta's death aged just 27 would have been avoided.
'If Practice Plus Group had provided continuity of care to Stephen Cole on his release from HMP Winchester it would have probably meant that he stayed on his medication and he would not have relapsed into psychosis.'
'The same would have happened if Dorset Police had properly assessed and managed Cole's risk.
'Either of those steps would have prevented Cole killing Marta. This is very difficult for the family to come to terms with, but finally gives them the answers they have been waiting for.

And hopefully a good reason to take Practice Plus Group to the cleaners in a civil suit.

This Is Why They Should Be Shot On Sight...

Despite the attack, the dogs have since been returned to Flood.

In other words, despite her loose vicious mutts attacking an 88 year old man's two dogs and killing one after getting out while the useless chav bitch of an owner was asleep - at 3:30pm.

Following her guilty plea magistrates made a contingent destruction order, stating that if Flood fails to keep certain conditions such as having the dogs muzzled, on a lead and secured in her garden, they will be put down.

She's ALREADY failed those conditions, so why give her another chance? Yet they always do.

Flood was told she must take her responsibilities for dog ownership more seriously going forward.

Like that's going to happen...

Flood was ordered to pay the pensioner £700 for the cost of the pedigree chihuahua, £500 for his psychological damage and £300 towards the vet bill for his other chihuahua.

'Towards' the vet bill, so I doubt it even covers the full amount. God, I'm so very sick of reading these stories. What's the point of licensing wild animals if the domestic ones freely available to every Tom, Dick and Harry can do as much damage?

Well, I Was Wrong...

...I've just seen a worst one, and it's from North Yorkshire Police this time:

One of the lines of enquiry relates to the behaviour of the dog to help explain, as far as possible, why it attacked the girl.

If the idiot parents had illegally bought their child a king cobra (and she'd probably have been safer with one!), would you be wracking your tiny brains to try to explain why it bit her? No. Of course not.

All indications so far suggest it was out-of-character, with the girl and dog having a close, loving relationship.

'Out of character' for this particular mutt, or for the breed? Because all police farces should know by now this is absolutely in character for this breed.

Pointer puppies grow up to point, border collie puppies grow up to herd, pitbull breed puppies grow up to savage the everliving life out of something.

Due to the circumstances of the incident, the dog will be destroyed.

It should have been shot by armed cops when they turned up. Police need to treat these things like suspected IEDs, rendering them harmless at the scene, not taking them back to kennels to tinker with and endanger the kennel staff.

In the meantime, we again urge people not to speculate about the incident and to respect the family’s wish for privacy to grieve in peace. Our officers are continuing to support the family while enquiries continue.

You should be treating them as murder suspects. They endangered the life of their child and everyone else in the vicinity.

Officers are conducting detailed enquiries covering all aspects of the incident.

Like how and when the girl 'acquired' her 'new pet' when it's been illegal to sell or give away one of these hellhounds since January, hmm? I bet you aren't enquiring about that.

Why are the police PR teams trying to appease the pitbull lobby here? What on earth is in it for them?

They Never Learn...

Chavs who love dangerous dogs, I mean...

Wright told police after he got back to the house: 'It was utter carnage.' Megan Horner, prosecuting, said: 'There had been concerns because of the number of dogs at the property although he claimed they were not aggressive.
'There was also a treadmill in the front room and Mr Wright said he used that when he could not be bothered to walk the dogs.
'It was clear in the main that the dogs were well looked after and in relatively good condition but there were concerns some of them did not have ready access to water.
'It was clear these three dogs that died had suffered and their needs were not being met. With that amount of dogs there should have been extra resources and extra space.
'There had been a deliberate disregard for their welfare and this offence is only aggravated by his previous conviction.'
He was banned from owning dogs for five years back in 2014. It clearly wasn't enough, as he then amassed 23 of the damn things as soon as that restriction was up. One wonders how he could afford so many...
It was discovered earlier this year that Wright has been helping re-home banned XL bullies in Scotland after the animals were banned in England unless owners were given an exemption. He was pictured posing with heavily-muscled XL bully- type breeds with names like Godzilla, Konvict and King Slayer.

Ah! One hope HMRC are wagging their tails and straining at the leash to get at his tax returns.

Judge Daniel Prowse sentenced Wright to eight months on each cruelty charge to run concurrently but suspended the sentence for 15 months. But he warned him he would decided at a later date whether to grant a prosecution request that he be banned from keeping dogs and cats.

What does it take to get a lifetime ban?

I Can't Keep Up With Them....

 ...fatal dog maulings, that is.

Police were last night urgently hunting up to three bulldog-like dogs suspected of mauling their owner’s brother to death. Officers were called to Hereford Close in Rubery, West Mids, in the early hours of Wednesday after receiving reports of dogs on the loose - and an awful smell coming from one garden.
A 33-year-old man, named locally as Niko, was found dead in the back garden of a property, where he had been looking after the dogs for his brother.
Looking after these murder mutts is a risky business, just yesterday we had the awful story of a man whose kind heart led him to a horrible death in the jaws of an XL bully he'd voliunteered to look after, and now this.
West Midlands Police initially said two dogs were seized at the scene and two further dogs may have also been at the address at the time and could now be at large in the area. But in a later statement, Insp Leanne Chapman said there were ‘definitely’ two dogs yet to be found and ‘potentially’ three dogs.
‘They may be together or they may be separated,’ she said, adding that the man in the house had been found with ‘bite injuries’.None of the dogs involved are believed to be a banned breed such as an XL Bully, but are thought to be similar American Bulldog types.

Maybe it's time they were added to the list then. But back to the bad smell.

Neighbour Charlene Newman, 40, told the Mail she had called the police after smelling a foul stench coming from the garden. She said: ‘It was a really bad smell. Like something rotting and it was coming from the bottom of the hedge in the back garden. I didn’t see a body but then the police came and put up a tent while they recovered it.‘

So just how long had he been dead?

And when reading this, the place name rang a bell. And here's why. It will be karma if these beasts were responsible for that, won't it, Reader?

Failing The Public Consistently...

...that's the 'contingent destruction order' option for magistrates:
This attack came just days after Baxter had bitten another dog on Dickens Drive where the defendant lives in Newport.
This animal sustained injuries that included a large cut to the centre of his chest, cuts to his face and mouth and a lump to the eye.
Baxter was only allowed out in public wearing a muzzle and when he was on a lead after a contingent destruction order was imposed in 2022 following a previous attack on a man.

And look how well it worked! The latest victim was very lucky one of the passers-by was a nurse.

On these two further occasions “neither of those requirements were followed”, Cardiff Crown Court was told. Millett pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dog that was dangerously out of control. He has 19 previous convictions for 33 offences.

It seems that this isn't unknown - it's quite common for the owners of these things to be incorrigible scofflaws that the justice system ignores until the inevitable disaster.

The defendant, represented by his barrister David Pinnell, works full-time as a construction industry worker, the court heard.

So? Is that supposed to mean he should be treated even more leniently? If so, the judge clearly bought it:

Judge Vanessa Francis jailed Millett for 20 months, suspended for 24 months. He must carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and complete a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
The defendant will have to pay £350 compensation each to Mr Osbourne and the owner of the dog in the earlier attack on November 3, 2023. A destruction order was made in respect of Baxter.

A pity one couldn't be issued for the owner too...

'I didn't see how I could live with what happened.'

But you seem happy for it to potentially happen to someone else?
An epilepsy sufferer has been left 'heartbroken' after his pet dog ripped off his nose in a vicious mauling which was triggered when the animal got 'spooked' by a night seizure. Ben Horne's house was left 'plastered in blood' after the attack which left his top lip hanging down and only the septum bone in his nose intact.
The dog? Well, no photo or breed description, but probably not a Labrador or chihuahua, folks! And not dealt with, either.
His dog Henry has since been rehomed and is living happily with a new family after an assessment.

A dog which mauls savagely when 'spooked' should only be 'rehomed' to the vet's freezer.
