Police have launched a murder investigation after a mother and her 11-month-old baby died following a collision with a lorry in the early hours of the morning.
The mum - named by friends today as 35-year-old Nichola Davies - died at the scene of the horror smash alongside her toddler daughter, who was a twin.
Murder? How come? Was anyone else involved?
Ms Davies had been driving a grey Ford Focus, with her daughter in the back, when it was involved in a crash with a yellow lorry on the A41 between Tern Hill and Newport, Shropshire, at around 1am on Tuesday.
Hmmm. Apparently not:
Nobody else was hurt in the crash and there have been no arrests. West Mercia Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
So who are the police looking at as the potential murderer?
Officers have spoken to the lorry driver and are investigating whether Ms Davies - who was known as Nikki or Nikko - may have deliberately caused the crash.

Not sure why you've chosen to emphasize this story... desperately sad if true but equally sad if just an accident.
The story is odd because of the inclusion of the words 'murder investigation' Geoffers. In what way could the incident ever be perceived as being a murder? That would imply that the truck driver deliberately caused the accident, which appears not to be the case. If the woman deliberately caused the accident that would be suicide.
This is indeed a horribly tragic case. I don't believe that the police should be criticised for opening a murder investigation as it is probably the only real course of action to follow if this incident was not obviously an accident. It is especially justifiable to open a murder investigation if there are suspicions that the mother's balance of mind was disturbed and the crash was deliberate.
A death of a child has occurred as well as the death of the child's mother and these deaths are not immediately obvious as an accident therefore the most obvious course of action is to investigate whether or not there was deliberate intent behind the deaths. Investigating this death on the road is little different in type from investigating one of the equally tragic and horrible familial murder/suicides that happen now and again.
"Not sure why you've chosen to emphasize this story.."
As Stony and Fahrenheit pointed out, because of the murder charge. Going to be hard, I fear, to make that stick...
"That would imply that the truck driver deliberately caused the accident, which appears not to be the case. If the woman deliberately caused the accident that would be suicide."
As Farenheit points out, it could relate to the death of the child. It's curious that she only took one with her.
"... if there are suspicions that the mother's balance of mind was disturbed and the crash was deliberate."
Hopefully the ubiquitous dashcam can provide some clue.
