Question: How Can You Get Planning Officer Recommendation…

…if you haven’t addressed the all-important H&S aspects?
Blackburn’s planning committee said the application was not complete and had not taken into account fire regulations or health and safety regulations.
The applicant was advised to have further conversations with planning officers by councillors at Thursday’s meeting.
Councillors went against planning officers recommendations to approve the plan.
Well, it seems you have to be applying to become a madrassa!
Coun Paul Browne said: “The building is quite unsuitable for this use, you only need to look at it.”
Chairman of the committee Jim Smith said: “In particular, attention needs to be placed on putting in proper fire escapes and safer windows.
“I would suggest further talks with planning officers. I’ve never seen a building more unsuitable”.
I bet it gets through the second time.

I daresay if you whine, seethe and go 'Islamophobia' a lot, thats as good as an engineers report.

Islamic nuttery and threats trumps fire safety it would seem here. I wonder what would happen if the Catholics tried to freak the planning system like this I bet the law would come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Notice they aren't accepting comments on that story.

Indeed!

"Notice they aren't accepting comments on that story."

I'm noticing that a lot more frequently on a fair few local paper stories. Not all of them the expected 'trial in progress' ones, either.

Julia, I've also noticed local papers shutting down their comments pages where the subject is controversial and not just where as you say there are legal aspects that need to be kept in mind.

I'm coming reluctantly to the point of view that there is a growing fear of the members of the Religion of Peace amongst police, local authorities, journalists etc etc and it is because of this that self censorship is now occurring.

It is not a healthy situation for one group to be exempt from criticism.

Part of the reason for leaving London was the disgusting sight of those who have the most to lose from the growth of militant Islam, pandering to it and shouting down those who pointed out the problems with allowing militant Islam a free ride (I'll write up the story one day it's an eye opener).

Now before people hit the 'Islamophobe' or 'Waycist' button let me say that I believe that what people believe in their heads should be sacrosanct but how religions manifest themselves in the wider world is a legitimate matter for concern. Also I believe that we shouldn't negatively and unjustifiably discriminate against the things that people cannot change such as race or gender but when it comes to culture, which a person can change, then nearly all restraints on criticism should be removed.

I don't hate individual muslims but I have certainly grown to have a distinct dislike of Islamic culture. Islamic culture threatens me and mine and that for me is where it crosses the dividing line.
