‘No Sex Prisoners Please, We’re British…’

Britain last night dramatically refused to take in any foreign terror suspects from Guantanamo Bay.

Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the UK already has enough on its hands dealing with British nationals and residents from the prison.

He said Britain had already ‘done its bit’ and was not prepared to open its doors to any remaining foreign inmates.
Uncharacteristically strong stuff there from Millipede. Is another round of leadership challenge rumours on the horizon?
EU foreign ministers met in Brussels yesterday to thrash out plans to resettle up to 60 detainees who, if freed, could not be sent home because they would face abuse, imprisonment or death, which would breach U.S. human rights laws.

But the talks broke up without agreement after the leaders demanded evidence from the U.S. that the inmates pose no terror risk.
Oh, dear. Poor Obama, making promises he had no ability to keep.

Guess he’s a politician after all, not the Messiah…

How was it done "dramatically", I'm imagining Miliband delivering the refusal in costume, on stage and in cod-Shakespearean tones

An election in the offing?

This policy could be named "sort out your own mess, don't drag us into it".

Daniel might enjoy being bitten! I must say this news has not been given much prominence, might upset the Golden Boy and Snotty?

They might face abuse, imprisonment, or death if sent home?

Point 1: they should have thought of that before they took up arms against the US.

Point 2: what the hell do they face in Gitmo? I thought imprisonment was the whole point, abuse the standard accusation, and death the possible outcome? So what's different?

Point 3, if they don't want to be sent home, then they can stay in Gitmo, can't they? Or hop over the border to that socialist paradise Cuba.

Mmm, amazing how selective the MSM can be, isn't it?

"Or hop over the border to that socialist paradise Cuba."

Sun, sand and socialism! What's not to like...? ;)

Truly the only appropriate response in this case- the testing of the water that's been going on here since the Portuguese (why them ??)said they may take a few has clearly not got very far with 'representative focus groups'.
The US in any case runs enough overseas dependencies (Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa etc.)to dispose of these inmates by itself- if, that is, they aren't going to face a trial in the US proper, or be sent home to their own countries.

Strange, are these the same European leaders who have been demanding the closure of the prison because the prisoners were NOT terrorists?

Suddenly, we require proof that they are not terrorists?

I am amused that Obama and the Eurolefties are getting tied up in this though...
