And A Hearty ‘F**k You!’ To All Our Residents….

Olympic athletes from across the world will use areas of Mayesbrook Park to train in during the games this summer.

Sections of the park, in Lodge Avenue, will be closed to the public from July 16 to September 9 and athletes will be ferried to the site by half-hourly coaches.
Adding to the traffic congestion on that already-busy route, but hey, at least those B&D residents who couldn’t get tickets for the actual runandjumpandthrowandswimathon can at least see some practice instead.

Oh. Hang on…
But the public will not be able to watch the athletes training for security reasons, a council spokesman has said.
/facepalm
A representative from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games said coaches could increase congestion but he did not believe it would be a significant problem.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the plans.
None of whom, I suspect, live anywhere near the park. So it won’t affect them.

But, as Raedwald points out, this is merely to be expected. This was never 'The People's Games', but always the feeding ground for the connected...

'Feeding Ground' - I like that. I now feel that us, the little people, are grazed on by the righteous.

As 'Smoking Hot' says I don't give a toss about the games, not interested, won't be going anywhere nr London or nr my part of Kent where there will be some Paralympic nonsense in September, but I will love to hear the political classes justify the huge losses and all the other shit that the games will leave as their 'legacy'.
I may have to learn Greek!

I would guess that after a week of the Olympic overlord harassment, quite a number of people will be dropping caltrops made from nails on the VIP lanes...

Frankly, the best we can hope for at the end of the summer is that we have not financially ruined the nation (and it is the nation who will pay, not just London, whatever the title says) and there is no major terrorist incident.

A bronze medal for ambition maybe, but better than the gold in failure.

Yuk....but I suppose you were destined to acquire all Gadget's crudities and eruptions.

Spending so much time in the sty was begging swine flu...

If it was my local field. I would be lobbing dog shit and other stuff over the fence.

Has an Olympic Games ever triggered a bloody revolution and the guillotining of the ruling class before?

Just asking. No reason.

I'm sorry to piss on your parade but . .

I left Sydney in 1999 after 11 years. Everybody there who didn't seem an idiot thought that the 2000 Sydney Olympics would be a clusterfuck of misery and cost.

Folk with whom I am still in touch say that they were completely wrong. I was too.

It turned out to be a huge success on many levels and, despite my natural cynicism, I think London might be alright despite the vast cost.

Fingers crossed!

The ticket allocation and the general exclusion of the great unwashed is a national disgrace.

I will content myself with watching on TV.

Big shame.

In other news: Ilford, just down the road from Mayesbrook, voted 2nd most miserable place to live, next to East London.

Which, coincidentally, is where they are holding the O-lympics.

Anonymous Melvin at 1907-was that a wrong posting or have you finally lost it?
Won't be long before your fellow half-wit Ciaran pops in as well. It's about this time his medication wears off.
As for the Olympics-you can't put a price on two bronze medals for cycling,oh yes you can 10 billion pounds.

The Limpdick lanes may by for the organizer's Zil use only, and we are not allowed to drive in them. However we could sit in them as a political protest, just pick a preferred slight and bobs your parents brother.........

I'm staying as far away from the whole shambles (because it will be Paul, this is London not Sydney) as possible.

I heard they plan, along with the zil lanes and the wonderful lineup of rock talent for the finale, that those common folk who live in Dorset or wherever they are holding the Sailing events, will not be able to see the events unless they have tickets, for they plan to put up hoardings and aluminium walls to obscure their view!

Spot on!

Oh, I think we're still in with a chance of gold, don't you?

"Just asking. No reason."

There's other cities, though, not so fortunate (and some still paying off the costs)....

"In other news: Ilford, just down the road from Mayesbrook, voted 2nd most miserable place to live, next to East London."

I know it well! And I'm not a bit surprised...

"...for they plan to put up hoardings and aluminium walls to obscure their view!"

Ahhhh, our bureaucrats would surely take home a clutch of medals for relay pettiness and the 100 metre dog-in-a-manger, if only they were Olympic sports!

I hope the Olympics turn out well but I cant shake the feeling that its going to be a bloody awful shambles.
And the bullying, authoritarian way that local people affected by the games have been treated is an absolute disgrace.
