At Least He Didn't Use A Knife...

The penalty for attacking a complete stranger, and then throwing acid in the face of the man who tried to stop the attack? 11 months...
A drunken thug threw sulphuric acid into the face of a good Samaritan who stepped in to break up a fight.

Courtney Bunce, 18, hurled the caustic liquid at Stephen Kerslake after he went to help a man who was being attacked by a mob.

Mr Kerslake, 19, was left with horrific burns and doctors said it was only his contact lenses that prevented him from being blinded.
Needless to say, the thug has a horrific record:
He had previous convictions, including one for causing grievous bodily harm to a 15-year-old boy in 2004. He was just 13 at the time.
And we wonder why we have a crime problem in the UK?

The maximum sentence for GBH is 5 years - or at least, it was when I did jury service.

So, what do you have to do these days to get anything approaching the maximum sentence?

Commit an act that could potentially blind someone and disfigure them for life? Nope, apparently not enough.

Have 'previous', including a prior conviction for GBH? Nope. That isn't enough, either.

This kind of thing is exactly why I'm getting out of the UK as soon as I'm able.

I think it must involve cannabalism. Or leaving your wheely bin lid open...
