Parents across Essex are urged not to buy their children any more toy guns or imitation weapons as Christmas presents as fears increase that youngsters may be challenged at ‘real’ gunpoint by armed police. Not sure why the scare quotes around ‘real’ there…

JuliaM - didn't you recently herald unsurprising news of police recruits with IQ's as low as, sorry as high as, 84?
Police angst that PC Average may fail to spot all 7 differences between the bright toy depicted and a Smith and Wesson, seem very reasonable to me.
If they can shoot people for carrying a table leg I'm sure they can manage it for toy ray guns.
Perhaps the solution might be to disarm the police, they're clearly a danger to the public.
Does anyone remember when toy guns looked fairly realistic?
I don't recall a wave of children being shot by swat teams.

That was then, this is now. Lower recruiting standards, removal of discretion, risk assessments, ACPO guidelines and people like DICK in charge.
