'Mail' Headline FAIL!

Surely he was already in a life of depravity? Prison was supposed to raise him up. Worked well, didn't it, progressives?

I await proclamations from the Howard League that this is further evidence that "prison doesn't work".

Depends how we define "work", I suppose. If it's keeping dangerous scum off the streets, it works perfectly.

Euthanasia?

The Libtards were all sniveling in their couscous when he was locked up the first time. I was shouted down for demanding an adult punishment for an adult crime. I hate to say I told you so, but...

He's had his chance. Two to the back of the head, and I'm happy to do it.

Julia,

Is it just me (it very well might be, I am getting on a bit now) or are the comments duplicating?

Brian, follower of Deornoth had it dead right the other day (regarding another sociopath) He said that the person concerned needed professional help... the help of a professional hangman. I think that applies to Venables as well. He had his chance all those years ago. He had a new identity and he was given all the opportunities to improve. He deserves to be identified in prison and given a dogs life. He is an absolute scumbag.

There is no getting away from the fact that he has already murdered a child and he has paedophile tendencies.
He is a wrong 'un and there will be a lot of hand wringing in two years time when he is due out again.

Oh, I've no doubt that this is considered a failure of prison, and not a failure of the prisoner.

"Euthanasia?"

If the other prisoners get their hands on him, the involuntary sort!

"He's had his chance."

He's had far, far more chance from the system than any other young thug. Except possibly Learco Chindamo. I wonder if the authorities are monitoring him as closely, on his release?

It's not just you! I've noticed that Blogger comments have been a bit flakey in the last two weeks.

"He deserves to be identified in prison and given a dogs life."

If he ever is, he certainly will be.

Perhaps iDave will have wised ip by then, and removed Clarje from his role as Justice Minister?

We can only hope...

Point of order: nobody knows whether 'prison' would have worked with Venables because it was never actually tried. Remember that part of the controversy of their early release was that neither actually spent so much as a day of their sentences in a real adult nick. On the other hand I look at some parts of the reports and I can't help wondering if the fucker's been trying to get back inside for some time. Supposedly being on licence means putting a toe out of line sends you straight back to custody, and we hear that over the past ten years this guy has got into fights, done drugs and finally calls his Probation Officer to say that he thinks his real identity is out and just before the guy shows up decides to draw attention to his computer by trying to remove the HDD with a tin opener. And apparently he's relieved to be locked away again. Maybe he's exactly what he appears to be - both a nonce and incredibly stupid - but maybe this is someone who can't hack it outside and has been doing his level best to get caught doing something serious enough to send him away again. If it's the second one I'd say give him what he wants and make it twelve or fifteen years without parole. If he is genuinely a nonce then stupid or otherwise he still needs locking up for a long time (my usual death penalty objection applies - I don't care about Venables' life but I don't trust the state with that power). Either way, a long sentence makes sense, not two poxy years.
