Maybe They’re Going For A Badge In Righteous Interfering?

Girl Guides are calling for warning symbols to be stamped on airbrushed pictures of models and actresses to curb a rise in eating disorders.
In what way is this a problem for the Girl Guides, for the love of…?

More than 20,000 young women are expected to sign an online petition demanding the compulsory labelling system for adverts and magazines that allow consumers to recognise natural and altered shots.

It will be available on the Girlguiding UK website for three months before being sent to David Cameron.

And after that, he’ll don his underpants over his trousers and leap into action as ‘Legislation Man’, will he?

Well, I don’t know if Brown Owl reads the news, but don’t get your hopes up, girls….

I don't think they will find 20,000 fat munters to sign this petition.

This is just the same nonsense as "Please drink responsibly'.

I'll drink how I like, regardless of the 'advise', and if I must be bombarded with adverts including pictures of scantily clad ladies, I'd rather they didn't resemble Jo Brand.

Girl Guides used to be a lot of fun, when I was kid. Now they seem to resemble some kind of PC/lesbian 'workshop'.

Online petitions are about as worthless as my claim of being an astronaut.

I think its a good idea , infact lets take it a stage further and make it law that the BBC have to show a symbol everytime they airbrush the news.
It'd make more appearances than 'the red button'

I just googled and found out that The Guide programme is divided into five areas:

discovery of new experiences and challenges

healthy lifestyles

global awareness

skills and relationships

celebrating diversity.

When I was in the wolf cubs and then the Scouts I learned how to tie different types of knots, build different types of fire and how to cook on them. Basic survival.
I don't remember anything about air brushed models. may be I missed that week.

You don't? They could probably find that number in Essex alone!

"Girl Guides used to be a lot of fun, when I was kid. Now they seem to resemble some kind of PC/lesbian 'workshop'."

Indeed. The list Blueknight provides is nothing like the activities I fondly imagined..!

Now that's a plan!

"Shame there isn't a shutting the fuck up merit badge."

We'll have to check out the Middle Eastern version of Girl Guides for that.. :D

@Julia: oi! Essex is OK. Let's have no South-of-the-river racism round here!

I just looked at the above comment and I am wondering if I should have read more into
'discovery of new experiences and challenges'

Air brushing is not real, so is Daffy Duck. They said that air brushing is a form of peer pressure to conform to an unreal norm.

What about the Guides failing to respond to peer pressure? - the peer pressure to sign an unrealistic petition.

Some girls are having children young, there may be peer pressure to do so, will we ban all babies?

Oh, I'm an Essex girl born and bred (and still - just - live here). But I'm under no illusions!

"What about the Guides failing to respond to peer pressure? - the peer pressure to sign an unrealistic petition."

That's the 'good' sort of peer pressure. The sort the Righteous approve of.
