Clearly, You Just Aren't Using Big Enough Needles...

..or maybe you're sticking them in the wrong places:
A 'one-boy wave of terror' who has stolen cars, committed arson and terrorised residents is being given free acupuncture in a bid to stop his behaviour.
And by 'free', of course, what they mean is you, the taxpayer, is forking out for it.
Sonny Grainger, 14, is notorious in his Hull, East Yorkshire, neighbourhood for smashing windows, attacking passsers-by with sticks, stones and bottles and was just 12 when he was given an Asbo.

He has already been expelled from three schools.
Well, then, maybe, if it works, it'll be worth it?
His mother, Nadine West, 40, says the holistic approach is showing signs of working, but admits he remains a menace to neighbours and passers-by - and has urged police to be tougher on her son.
He's your kid, love! Why don't you try that?
She said: 'Sonny loves the acupuncture. He is definitely a lot calmer when he walks out after the sessions, but he is still a menace.

'His school agreed to only have him for three days a week but that was not good enough for Sonny.

'He only needs to attend school on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They have been absolutely fantastic. But he won't go to school now. He has not been since February.'
/facepalm

Who's the adult in this relationship?
'He spends his days hanging out with his friends or playing his computer. I am really worried I will end up getting prosecuted, but he just won't go to school. What more can I do?'
Well, you could try taking away his damned computer until he starts doing as he's told..!

But no, this is not her fault, of course. It's the fault of 'the authorities':
His mother believes her family is not being given adequate help and accuses the authorities of biding their time before they throw her son in jail.

She said: 'Giving him another Asbo when this runs out is not the answer. I honestly believe now it is only a matter of time before he is locked up and they will just throw away the key. Sonny has to learn to meet people halfway, but he is just not interested.

'I would love it if the police could make him attend some kind of boot camp. He might stand a chance.'
I think, with an obviously inadequate parent like you, his chances are all flown.
Nadine previously claimed Sonny's misbehaviour was down to him suffering from a Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), meaning he does the opposite of what he is told.
If that were really true, all she'd have to do is tell the little waste of skin to go upstairs and play on his computer, and he'd trot off to school, wouldn't he?

Regular beating and a ritual bonfire of all computerised equipment in the back garden.

Then beat him again. Job done.

You can forget that sweetheart .. Humberside (Blunderside more like) Police would be hard pressed to detect a pickled onion in a fruit salad ..

Give me ten minutes with the little "Hully-Gully" scrote & I'd have him pleading to go to school ..

There's really one one viable option for the whole of Hull .. and that's the Nuclear one ..

Two hundred years ago, this little shit would either be on the end of a rope by now or on his way to Australia.

Still - good job we live in more 'enlightened' times these days, eh?

Oppositional Defiant Disorder

Is this not otherwise known as being a teenager/youth and haven't we all been through that to some extent? The difference being it seems that our parents didn't cave in to it but instead knew what discipline was.

Oppositional def-what? That's a new one, isn't it? Or was someone taking the piss with the acronym?

WV: cyantist - a twat with a certificate on the wall who's paid to make up this garbage.

Oppostional Defiance Disorder, surely the pinnacle of Therapy Nation bollocks.

I assume you've seen Anna's latest post, Julia? This one seems a likely candidate, only don't bother with the test tube first.

Most of us here are ODD. We don't like being told what to do.

...Or hammering them in hard enough.

Seriously though, call me a silly wet liberal but I do have some sympathy for single mothers trying to control teenage sons, especially as they have been told all their lives that such control is unnecessary and probably illegal.

Britain used to have institutions for ODD lads, perhaps we should bring them back?

Is there not an opportunity for restorative justice here?

Advertise for people willing to try their hand at being an acupuncturist. Start by inviting all the victims of his previous crimes. Keep the budget down by letting them bring their own needles.

It is a shame that we are no longer surprised by this kind of bollocks. I'm with English Viking for stage one treatment. My first reaction was along the lines of your headline. Nails instead of needles and a big wooden cross should do the trick. What a waste of skin, DNA and everyone else's money!

Great comment on the story;

"I bet he doesn't attack any passers-by with shaven heads and lots of tatoos. So-called compulsive tearaways are actually quite good at guessing likely reactions and they can always resist their compulsion when giving in to it could result in a nasty beating."

Useless f**king mother, what is it with parents wanting to be 'friends' with their kids these days?

This post is complaining about a mother who isn't hard enough on her child. "Regular beatings" needed.

The previous post, about a mother accused of cruelty.

Captain Haddock said...

There's a mahoosive world of difference between smacking a child for persistent bad behaviour .. and deliberately burning a child with a cigarette ..

One is called parental "discipline" .. the other is called gratuitous "cruelty" ..

Somewhere along the line, TPTB have allowed those differences to become blurred & murky ..

Spot-on: one smash in the teeth would finish his crime career for good.

"What, no dad?"

None mentioned. Possible that it was through death or divorce.

"...Humberside (Blunderside more like) Police would be hard pressed to detect a pickled onion in a fruit salad .."

They must be quite familiar with this little tyke though, given how often he's come to their attention.

"Is this not otherwise known as being a teenager/youth..."

Yup! Welcome to the medicalisation of normality. Everything's an 'ism' these days.

Most of us wouldn't dream of petty vandalism. Or get away with it, for that matter!

"...call me a silly wet liberal but I do have some sympathy for single mothers trying to control teenage sons, especially as they have been told all their lives that such control is unnecessary and probably illegal."

Yes, the progressives have certainly made a rod for their own backs there, haven't they?

Sadly, it's everyone else that is paying the inevitable price.

"Is there not an opportunity for restorative justice here?

I like that idea! :D

"Somewhere along the line, TPTB have allowed those differences to become blurred & murky .."

Spot on!

I'd put money on there being a correlation between 'medical' conditions such as ODD and the absence of a father. Not a perfect correlation, but a very significant one.

I like DumbJon's take on modern 'compulsions' - when progressives can produce a documented case of a person commiting an act in broad daylight in front of a copper, I'll start believing it is genuine.

Otherwise no.

Zaphod said...

@Rob, "absence of a father"

You're right, but then what? What realistic recommendation does this observation lead you to?

Does it involve introducing some sort of legal compulsion?
