Obscene…

Two brothers cleared of murdering Damilola Taylor have been awarded £70,000 for wrongful arrest and "hurt feelings".
In case you were wondering if these are indeed the sort of people who might have feelings…
The brothers have criminal records dating back to the age of 10 for theft, aggravated burglary, robbery, stealing cars, assaulting police and possessing cannabis.
There’s your answer.

The Met at least showed a bit of backbone:
The Met agreed the payouts but refused to apologise.
Hey, it’s only our money, after all….

Par for the course, sadly.

I'd love to be really offended by someone. It can become a lottery win if you make enough noise....

And in the unlikely event of them ever being caught doing anything wrong in the future, do they have to pay anything back?

No, I thought not.

No double jeopardy to worry about for them though I'd imagine.

Ranty, you, like myself being unfortunately born a white, hetro, nominally christian, male, no one really gives a shit as to whether we're offended by something or not!!

According to that E. Std report 'the trial collapsed'.

Why do you think that was? The Mail says - //During the trial a key prosecution witness, a 14-year-old girl, claimed to have witnessed the attack but was later revealed to be an 'accomplished liar' with her sights set on a £50,000 reward.//

Perhaps the sum awarded is a bit high, but perhaps that girl - who would now be about 25- should contribute something?

Budvar,

You are absolutely right.

I must have had a brain-fart.

Of course we cannot be offended. By anything. Ever. By anyone. Ever.

We have no right to be offended.

Does that make us a new minority?

"Trial collapsed"

I seem to recall the "Trial collapsed" also for the "Alleged" killers of the "sainted" Stephen Lawrence.

Anyone recall how much they received in compo?

Good point Budvar.
The girl in the Damilola trial was found to be a liar and I think the scrotes were in custody so under the present rules they are allowed compensation.Lets hope they spend it on drugs and booze and end up killing themselves.

This example epitomises the down side of public resistance to routine arming of police.

All the embarrassment of collapsing trials and cash payouts could be avoided when seven dum dums in the suspects head may be explained using the table leg or some other shooter excuse.

In the meantime, constables such as Jaded the Short Shifter, have no choice but to use intelligence in better fit ups or the messy alternative which makes best use of whatever is available from the suspect's cutlery drawer.

Couldn't the police apologise but we don't give them any money? Seems fairer.

"No double jeopardy to worry about for them though I'd imagine."

They don't seem the sort to worry about anything the justice system throws at them. Why should they?

"...this victimhood poker thing is getting complicated"

At the moment, it seems 'Muslim' trumps everything...

Good point!

"Couldn't the police apologise but we don't give them any money? Seems fairer."

It does indeed...

Could be a blessing in disguise. All their mates will know that they are rich so they will become targets in turn. What's their life expectancy now? Months?

That report caused me "severe emotional trauma" owing to a spot of rage. Can I have seventy grand please?

I have tried killing something with a spoon but it was too hard. The garlic crusher came in handy for getting a confession though.
