Is It 'Cos I Is...? Pt 268974

Imara Jones (Who he? Why, none other than the economic justice contributor for Colorlines.com! Aren't you impressed?) on the awful injustice done to ... well, people with afros, I think:
Over the past year, "natural hair pat downs" have taken place with greater reported frequency. The fact that they occur at all underscores that America's post-racial future still has roots in its racist past.
With a twice-elected black man as the country's chief executive, how could the TSA get it so wrong?
So black Americans should be exempt from the stupid screening laws that everyone else has to undergo because Obama!

Yeah, right. Give him a call on your ObamaPhone and tell him about it, Imara...

Shame on you, Julia.
The coiffure of no particular description is as harmless as the shoulder holster on occasions when the latter is empty.

And if the 1960's Dusty Springfield look came back into fashion?

Does this fool not think they too wouldn't be subjected to a cursory check.

Anyway, I don't really care. The checks are such that its simply not worth the hassle visiting the US these days.

Ah yes, visiting the US of A, as John Pickworth indicates, is a bit of a hassle nowadays, I believe.

My wife and I have visited a few times and have had some marvelous holidays exploring the west coast, the east coast and some of the in-between bits, driving hire cars around. Our last tour was in 2000.

Following the Saudi Arabian attack on New York in September 2001, we have declined to visit because of the ludicrous 'security' arrangements the authorities now seem to require. A few years ago, we had a great holiday in Costa Rica but decided to travel via Madrid rather than transit USA, the usual route to San Jose from Britain. We have 'nothing to hide', both of us being law abiding boring old gits, but strongly object to having to supply all sorts of 'personal' details (finger prints etc.) just to visit a country.

Being keen followers of Baseball we would love to visit again to see a game or two 'live'. However, since it would seem that we are less welcome there than we are in Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos (all of which we have visited), I don't suppose we will bother.

Nitty Nora, the bug explorer, gets a security upgrade.

Who'da thunk it?

Indeed. He's a fool if he thinks the TSA wouldn't be only too happy to humiliate anyone of any colour!

I've heard that from a LOT of people. I wonder just how much business they've lost as a result?
