Defence FAIL!

Sarwar denied the charge, claiming his faith prevented him from striking anyone. But the defendant had been seen hitting boys before, the eldest boy told Manchester magistrates' court.
I guess his faith didn't prevent him lying, then?

like all the muslims nicked for drink driving and refusing to take any test because AS A MOOSE-SLIM (as the BBC newsreader Charlotte Green irritatingly insists on pronouncing the word)they don't touch alcohol!

Talk about a weak defence - my religious book says that I didn't do it.

Atheists like me, sadly, can't rely on such claims.

I wish any ridiculous defence had succeeded because the matter was mishandled and the Muslim teacher was treated badly.

Mosques are places where respectful conduct is essential and Muslims are less tolerant to misconduct in places of worship. What we may indulge in our young, a Muslim would probably not and Muslim children may be all the better for it.

What a pity the Muslim world was denied the option of dealing with this matter in its own way and how badly this sits alongside the recent comments of a Judge who condoned the extreme violence of a 'good kicking' for bad behaviour.

The Koran apparently forbids lying, but only to other people. Those who aren't Muslims don't count as people.

When Iraq's al-Askari mosque was bombed in 2006, a local commentor (perhaps an Imam) deemed that Zionists and/or the West had carried out the attack, rather than a Muslim group.

His reasoning? The act was 'too brutal' to have been carried out by a Muslim.

Yeah, right.

Ooh, yes! That one always makes me grind my teeth too...

"Atheists like me, sadly, can't rely on such claims."

Well, the Greens are giving it a gool try, with that chap arguing he was pushed out because of his environmental 'beliefs'!

"...the matter was mishandled and the Muslim teacher was treated badly. "

No. He was treated exactly the same as any other teacher accused of striking a pupil.

"...how badly this sits alongside the recent comments of a Judge who condoned the extreme violence of a 'good kicking' for bad behaviour."

That judge was careful to temper his words in hindsight, though, wasn't he?

"The Koran apparently forbids lying, but only to other people."

Yes, I did think of taqiyya when I wrote this up.

"His reasoning? The act was 'too brutal' to have been carried out by a Muslim."

You've got to admire his....errr...chutzpah!
