Hey, The ‘Big Society’ Does Work, After All!

Take the case of the vandalised nature reserve:
The reserve on Holt Island in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, was ruined by vandals and its walkways swallowed by mud.
‘This is a job for the council!’, cried…errr, the council:
Huntingdonshire District Council came up with a three-year redevelopment scheme...
Estimated cost? £300,000. Yes, that's three hundred thousand pounds...
… but a residents' group completed the same work in 18 months for £30,000.
That’s half the time, and a tenth of the price…

Remind me again, why exactly do we need councils?

So people can paid handsomely while doing little work other than organising 'community and multi-culti initiatives', rush around slavishly following follow EU guidelines, be in trade unions in order to demand more for less before finally enjoy huge pensions.

Pretty straightforward, really.

But the residents' group's work was significantly inferior to the Council's plan. They forgot to celebrate diversity as an integral part of their planning process, and they comprehensively failed to produce an global warming impact assessment to measure the quantifiable environmental benefits of their project on local CO2 emissions in a manner benchmarked to best practice.

All of which completely explains the difference of £270,000...

Patently you also forgot the child protection policies. Almost bound to be some kids helping out so they should have all done a "Safeguarding and Protecting Young People" course.

Did one yesterday, needed to get the answers 100% correct to prove I was correctly indoctrinated.

And don't forget the CRB checks.

If anyone falls and hurts themselves I assume it will be impossible to work out who to sue. People will have to start taking responsibility for their own safety again. Wouldn't that be cool.

And doubtless the residents didn't carry out risk assessments, erect loads of warning signs and barriers, and.....

Well, we need those people to fill all the offices in all those massive municipal buildings ..

Otherwise, there would be a serious and very real risk that someone might come along & put them to a useful purpose ..

Oh, absolutely! I'm sure it affected the finished product immensely.

What's that? It didn't? Hmmm...

It would. It really would.
