Arrogance? I Haz It!

From 'protein wisdom', the First Lady of the US steps out to add some more inches to her already not inconsiderable derriere:
The first lady brought daughters Malia and Sasha to former “Top Chef” contestant Spike Mendelsohn’sGood Stuff Eatery in DC for cheeseburgers, onion rings, fries, and milkshakes. “They got the burgers medium,” says a spy. (President Obama was mildly ridiculed after ordering a burger medium-well in January.) “Three starving Secret Service guys were literally standing over the grill as Spike made the burgers, but didn’t eat,” our source adds. Fellow patrons had their cellphones temporarily confiscated to prevent pictures from being taken.
If Laura Bush had tried this, or even Hilary Clinton? My, the screaming would have shaken the Capitol Building to its foundation and the ACLU's phoneline would have melted down...

Tee hee!

It is unreported whether Mrs Obama went completely mental when a student enquired about her husband's taste in burgers ...

Lol!

"...sadly the ever reliable NYP doesnt actually say that phones were confiscated at the first lady's behest."

Phones were confiscated, that much is true. Care to address the point about how this would have been treated if it had been anyone else but the Blessed Michelle?

It would have been at the Secret Services behest, Jay Leno mentioned this on Top Gear the other week, that when Barry came on his show in the US, the Secret Service requested that all phones be handed in or confiscated.
Also employees were pre-vetted and those that failed to pass Secret Service muster told to 'not come in' on the day the President visited with no reason given as to why.

Whether this is new to the Obama Presidentcy I couldn't say, but the Secret Service take their job very seriously.

Quite simply in the days of Hilary Clinton and to some extent Laura Bush there would have been no need to confiscate phones. The phones were confiscated for the simple reason that virtually every phone nowadays contains a camera and video ability - I would imagine that in Clintons time if someone whipped out a camera, especially a video camera, they would have most definitely had it taken off them by the secret service - and not a thing would have been said about it in the press.

Well, we can thank god that in Kennedy's time, poor Mr Zapruder wasn't relieved of his cinecamera, eh? ;)
