Scaremongering, Or Something Else...?

First, we had this:
An amateur scientist sparked a full-scale bomb alert after buying chemicals online.

Special Branch officers arrested Nicholas Witham and his home was sealed for two days while Army bomb disposal experts and forensic teams searched the property.

But Mr Witham, 38, who suffers from anxiety and depression, insists he is innocent and has accused the police of massively over-reacting.
Next, the police seem to have found time between harassing tourists and breaking into houses to start checking up on those enemies of the state, hairdressers:
The inquiry which involves checking every salon in the county is to find out how much of the chemical - which is used in hair bleaching - is being stored and if it is being kept in a safe place.

Barbers and stylists are being asked where they get their supplies from, how much they use, where it is kept and if their premises have CCTV or are fitted with a burglar alarm.

The hairdressers are also being urged to report any theft of peroxide to police immediately.
What's going on?

Is this just more scaremongering? Or is there something in the wind?

It isn't plumbers any more, it's also hairdressers! They'll be checking imams next!

Nah, that's just crazy talk! Religion of peace, remember?

Gotta watch those Presbyterians, though, they're a suspicious bunch..

Incriminating evidence below is derived from a selective audit of my garden cabin contents:-
Numerous sport balls and shuttlecocks, 5Kg sodium chlorate, a box of BBQ firelighters and a pair of curling tongs.

A few million of us could await a visit from the paranoid and trigger happy or immediately turn ourselves in.

Sorry, last comment had a cockup!

Is it totally beyond their comprehension that they should be out catching CRIMINALS?

There are tens of thousands of illegal immigrants running around free, some of them dangerous criminals.

Gangs of yobs terrorising housing estates and doing their best to kill each in the process.

Crime has risen by nearly 80% since Labour came to power. Britain´s cities are fast becoming some of the most dangerous in the world.

The public are hiring private security companies to patrol their streets and escort their kids to and from school...

... and the police are chasing tourists, hairdressers and people with chemistry sets!

I don´t think it´s scaremongering or something in the wind. The Police don´t like having to deal with real criminals, they like to pick on easy tangible targets, like the innocent!!!

It's just that they're idiots who don't appreciate the difference between the 5% Hydrogen Peroxide used in bleaching hair, and the 50% or more that you'd need to create any sort of worthwhile sort-of-explosive device.

Nor do they know that to convert the one to the other is a hugely hazardous process unlikely to be possible without serious lab kit and a few blow-ups along the way.

To them it's all just "peroxide".

It's the same mentality as taking shampoo bottles off 80-year-old ladies at airports - just designed to show you who's in charge.

Yes, but what if ten hairdressers got together and created a bomb with the 50% or more needed? This is the real threat; forget Islamofacism. There's an election coming up, and Labour needs those votes in the Midlands and North.

WMD, indeed..

Yes, it's almost as if we have too many (hardly true) and they have too much time on their hands (not true according to police bloggers). Something's up, somewhere.

Maybe it's because Labour are holding a conference soon?

"It's the same mentality as taking shampoo bottles off 80-year-old ladies at airports - just designed to show you who's in charge."

Plus, 80 year old ladies (and hairdressers) tend not to bother with complaints.

"There's an election coming up, and Labour needs those votes in the Midlands and North."

Perhaps they've put Simon the Chupa Chups PR guy in charge of security?
