Children will be banned from watching shooting events under Boris Johnson's Olympic ticket giveaway. And you’ll never guess why?
Giving children tickets to the events, at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, could have appeared at odds with Mayor Boris Johnson's bid to quell teenage gun and knife crime.Only with people who have no sense of proportion or common sense.
And when did anyone ever thing it was a good idea to listen to people like that?
Georgina Geikie, 26, a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Olympic pistol hopeful, said she was "horrified", adding: "This is a chance for children to look at guns in a different way. They are taking away the opportunity for the sport to blossom. How do we educate people that it is a sport if they cannot watch it?"Good question. Particularly when, if they never, ever see anyone using a gun responsibly (but do view as many gangsta rap music videos as they could possibly want), the glamour will be all the more attractive…
David Penn, secretary of the British Shooting Sports Council, said: "There is no link between Olympic-level shooting and crime. It's like saying that a thief would use a Formula One car as a getaway car."Better not go giving them ideas, chum.
But Danny Bryan, founder of Communities Against Gun and Knife Crime said: "I agree with Boris. It is good kids should enjoy the Games but there's no way we should glorify guns."They are a part of the games. You’ll have to live with that.
Telling kids that they can’t watch this part of the games just gives guns the glamour and ‘forbidden fruit’ mystique that you are supposedly fighting against, you ignorant, publicity-hungry cretin!

This is a fucking joke. It's hard enough for our shooting competitors already without stigmatizing them and lumping them in with criminal gangsters.
Don't they use a starting PISTOL in most of the other events? Won't the sight of armed policey men everywhere glorify guns to the kiddies?
As a persistent non-murdering and law-abiding citizen who fired his first real gun before puberty I can only say Jesus fucking Christ on a trampoline, what the cunting fuck are they thinking? Not only is it removing a perfect demonstration of responsible gun use from children's view but what the hell business is it of anyone but the parents? Whatever next, people unable to buy a glass of wine in the pub because they've got their kids wi... oh, wait, that has just happened, hasn't it?
'Kinell! What a fucking country it's becoming.
Hang on a minute! Boris is ALWAYS jumping the shark. It's what he does.
I should add that this should be no surprise to anyone. Boris showed what an illiberal prick he is when he banned drinking on the tube the second he became mayor. Yet another know it all pollie who thinks the solution to a handful of problem people is to treat millions as no better and restricting everybody.
Maybe archery should be banned then.
Boxing too, oh and of course wrestling, maybe we could introduce 'find the Mp and Mayors spine event' and it could be carried on till the next Olympics cos there sure aint any in London.
Good point. And on the subject of points, isn't fencing just like really posh knife fighting? It must be kept from the ickle kiddies as well. Javelin? Well, that's like a spear, right? So that's out too along with all the other track and field stuff that's on at the same time. Stop us when it gets too silly for you, Boris, you boofhaired twat.
I'm in full agreement with the Angry Exile here. If we're going to ban the shooting events from children (although not every single 12A movie with guns and death and swearing everywhere) then we should exclude them from ALL of the events that glorify sharp things or violence.
That includes football in this country.
Are you absolutely sure, Julia, that it was the real Boris? Was it not a twitterer calling himself Mayor of London?
Every event involves competition and people who lose.
Too, too distressing.
Children shouldn't be exposd to see that kind of thing.
Let's evacuate all the children from London.
"Maybe archery should be banned then. Boxing too, oh and of course wrestling"
And ban running events too, 'cos the Yoof likes to run away from riots. And while we are at it, how about the High Jump, 'cos the Yoof rarely have to face that as a result of their criminal ways.
As someone who has been actively involved with firearms since a teenager may I say what a complete load bollocks.
At the NRA open days at Bisley I regulalry instruct 14 years and older "kids" in shooting modern sniping rifles at 1000 yards. The first introduction to guns they have is safety, how to handle a gun safely and then are given appreciation what happens when a bullets hit things, and just how far a bullet can go.
Guns are glorified in rap songs and movies where a "nickled plated 9" is a fashion accessory, or a twat like Vinne Jones waves .50 cal Desert Eagles about.
The Libturds in this country think guns per se are evil, they are truly frightend of them. I was staying at a friends place recently who had a friend from London staying, they were for want of a better words "freaked out" by the fact I had legally licenced firearms with me.
But then as Neil Young sang "There's crime in the city" in the country where we have guns there is far less burglarly and far fewer people assualted in their homes.....
I watched him (TWICE) on hignfy and thought him a twit.
I watched the "news" report when he had a run in with a certain lady
whilst out riding his bike, and thought him an even bigger twit.
I've watched him many times mumble,
stumble and bumble his way through Mayoral question time, he comes across as a bloody idiot.
If this is true and not some cooked up hoax the man is a Jeremy Hunt as pronounced by John Humphries on the radio 4 Today proramme.
TA - nice to know the Bisley open days are still going. I dragged friends who equated "recreational shooter" with "spree killer in waiting" (needless to say I hadn't shot any of them) along to a couple of the open days to show them how seriously safety and responsible handling is taken and hopefully dispel some of the hoplophobia. The black powder pistols were a revelation: "Splutter, but they were banned, weren't they?" Nope, not those, now do you want find out what shooting one feels like or do you want another go with the sporting clays? Overall a qualified success in that even though most weren't going to take up the sport I broke the misconception that only nutters like guns, and even managed to get a quiet admission from one of the most phobic of the lot that the feeling of smoking a clay into thousands of tiny fragments was really quite satisfying.
What a shame the Olympics isn't going to be permitted to be as positive and educational as the NRA open days. Needless to say as a responsible recreational shooter I'm not going to advocate violence toward BoJo, even if he is an insufferably illiberal twat, but I will say that I hope he falls down the stairs and lands on his bollocks.
Do you know .. for one silly minute, I read that as being ..
"Children will be banned from watching looting events under Boris Johnson's Olympic ticket" ..
But then thought, Nah .. that can't be right .. Boris the Berk hasn't got that much between his lugs ..
Depressingly, I am not surprised by this. The more I listen to BoJo, the more I have come to regard him as an untrustworthy, shifty, opportunistic twonk, who will blurt things out, await the reponse and then bluster that he 'didn't mean that...'
When it suist him (if he thinks he can score points before KL opens his mouth...
This is part of the continued campaign to obfuscate the real source of 'gun and knife' crime.
A source that has a certain unmentionable demographic.
I recall watching (I believe) a Channel4 documentary a few years ago about street crime. As it happens, they had just arrested a young black kid who had just shot someone. He was absolutely distraught (and I mean distraught)... not because he'd been caught but because he'd witnessed at close range the horrific damage a single bullet can do to a human being. He even said he'd shot this other boy as a warning, expecting little more than a hole in a tee-shirt and a spot of blood. The precise image he'd no doubt picked up from watching years of American cop/crime shows.
I thought then, would there have been a different outcome if he'd seen the real-world power of weapons - or at least portrayed realistically on TV?
I was raised on a diet of the 6 O'clock news showing the latest blood, guts and gore coming out of Vietnam. I sometimes think we did ourselves a national disservice when the nightly news was made more 'child friendly' in the late 1970's
This is what happens when you infantise everything and you'd think Boris would know better (considering his ancestral history).
"This is a fucking joke."
Oh, how I wish it was! I've emailed and Tweeted my objections to the Mayoral and Olympic PR departments, but I don't know if it'll do any good.
It feels increasingly as if I'm living in a country that's lost all reason.
"Don't they use a starting PISTOL in most of the other events? "
Good point!
"As a persistent non-murdering and law-abiding citizen who fired his first real gun before puberty I can only say Jesus fucking Christ on a trampoline, what the cunting fuck are they thinking?"
I don't think they are. I think their brains are in 'idle'.
"Hang on a minute! Boris is ALWAYS jumping the shark. It's what he does."
Most of the time, he's 'better than Ken'. At least, that's the mantra we Londoners mutter. Mind you, Ken would likely to the same, wouldn't he?
"Maybe archery should be banned then.
Boxing too, oh and of course wrestling..."
Well, quite. Where do you stop?
"Are you absolutely sure, Julia, that it was the real Boris?"
To be fair, I doubt this was a personal decision. But he has to own it, if made by his staff.
"Guns are glorified in rap songs and movies where a "nickled plated 9" is a fashion accessory, or a twat like Vinne Jones waves .50 cal Desert Eagles about.
The Libturds in this country think guns per se are evil, they are truly frightend of them..."
An attitude I just cannot fathom. It's just an inanimate tool!
"Depressingly, I am not surprised by this. "
I was. I must not be TOTALLY crushed of all hope. Getting there, though... ;)
"...they had just arrested a young black kid who had just shot someone. He was absolutely distraught (and I mean distraught)... not because he'd been caught but because he'd witnessed at close range the horrific damage a single bullet can do to a human being."
Indeed. Mind you, he's not likely to see that at the Olympics.
Perhaps a tour of the operating theatre or some really, really gruesome videos from Iraq should be prescribed for each wannabe 'gangsta'?
A Progressive cause - pointless, noisy, overtly 'caring' while doing absolutely nothing of use.
We can't stop here, this is Batty Boris country!
