"It was not suddenly bred. It will not swiftly abate. "

"Through the chilled years ahead, When Time shall count from the date That the Saxon began to hate."

Better begin counting....

Just like her boss getting booed by the crowd at Doncaster racecourse. People are finally having enough. Long may it continue!

Hear, hear! Instantly recognised as my mother - a keen observer of politics - has been quoting this for weeks.

All in all, it’s been a good few months for Kipling: ‘Danegeld’ over the train drivers/doctors pay settlements, ‘The White Man’s Burden’ over immigration and ‘The Gods of the Copybook Headings’ (my father’s favourite) over - well, pretty much everything this government has done.

My nominee for most apt Kipling poem for moment, though, is ‘A Servant When he Reigneth’. If you’ll forgive the extended extract:

‘…He knows no use for power except to show his might.
He gives no heed to judgment Unless it prove him right.

Because he served a master Before his Kingship came,
And hid in all disaster Behind his master's name,
So, when his Folly opens The unnecessary hells,
A Servant when He Reigneth Throws the blame on some one else.’

That's an excellent description of Kamala Harris

I know that public and and restaurant owners can be prosecuted for protecting their properties by posting "No travellers allowed", but can they be prosecuted by posting, "No Labour politicians allowed"? Just asking.
