"I say good for Mr Patel."

And so say all of us:
The North West Tonight journalist had been preparing a report in Sackville Gardens, central Manchester, when a group of drunken louts began harassing him and his cameraman Steve Capstick.
I've noticed lately there's a lot more idiots making faces behind the presenter and waving to their mum on outside broadcast reports.

But these two had something less harmless in mind.
But what they didn't realise was that Mr Patel has a black belt in Karate, and when he was finally pushed too far the suited reporter lashed out in kung-fu style.

He floored one of the unsuspecting thugs with a kick to the groin followed by a lightning-quick punch in the face.
/cheer

The only thing that concerns me is what would have happened if the incident hadn't all been caught on CCTV, and if the person involved hadn't been a BBC reporter?

So, it's all of a sudden ok to physically attack people if they harass you?

That's news to me... normally it's still classed as an assault at least it is when grannies poke stone-throwing louts into their bellies.

One rule for them, another rule for us.

@ Fat Hen

Probably safer not to count on it, the fact that he wasn't prosecuted only shows that the law regarding the use of force against violent assailants is schizophrenic.

Though I dare say it's the 'hate-crime' factor that decided Mr Patel's fate in this case.

The judge really threw the book this time, too...

"McKenna was giving a community order for 18 months with supervision and 14 hours unpaid work at Manchester Crown Court on October 22.
Nugent was also given an 18-month community order with supervision.
Jodie Anderson, 26, the female who threw the drink over Mr Patel, had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Patel and was given a suspended six-week prison sentence and ordered to pay him £50 compensation.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, Mr Patel said: 'I am shocked and upset by what has happened. I was trying to go about my business in a peaceful way.'"

That'll show THEM..

Fat Hen's right in that he seems to have taken the law into his own hands instead of waiting for the paramedics to scoop him up and take him to Casualty, and I'll bet he scored a big hand in Victimhood Poker, too.

We now know that it's OK to attack people who are harassing you if you are a member of a politically favoured group.

Suppose a white man was being harassed by persons of an ethnic persuasion?

Would the victim be let off as lightly as the perpetrators here?

We will find out if Tauriq Khalid, is found guilty of pretending to point a gun at Nick Griffin and call him a "white b*****d"...

I think the CCTV pics swung the balance in his favour here. At least, I hope that's what did it...

Of course, it could well be this...

"That'll show THEM.."

Ahh, British justice at its finest...

"We will find out if Tauriq Khalid, is found guilty of pretending to point a gun at Nick Griffin and call him a "white b*****d"..."

Mmmm, that one's going to be interesting, to say the least...

I don't suppose that the fact he is Indian/Pakistani helped in ANY way at all in "getting him off", DID it.
