A hit-and-run motorist who fled the scene of a fatal collision with a 22-month-old toddler walked free from court after the victim’s mother would not testify./facepalm
Gurpal Khangura, 34, hit two-year-old Aashir Zeeshan as the boy crossed Salisbury Road, Barking, to reach his mother Sumaira.OK, the child shouldn’t have been in the road, but this is the best they can do?
The child was hurled up to 16 metres by the impact with the car and later died of head injuries.
Judge Simon Wilkinson said the “exceptional” circumstances allowed him to pass a three-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
He said that Khangura had been aware he had hit a small child, but only drove off after he knew that the boy was being looked after.Oh. That’s ok then…
Earlier this month the same court heard Aashir’s mother Sumaira, 25, was due to give key evidence about the speed Khangura was travelling at when he hit the toddler.
But it emerged she is now heavily pregnant, may be abroad and is not willing to give evidence.‘May be abroad’..?
Very odd. Very odd indeed…
