Clearly A Far More Troubling Question Than ‘Daddy Or Chips?’…

…that being ‘skirts or trousers?’:
Schoolgirls have been warned they will be sent home if they are caught wearing skinny fit trousers or leggings.
Oh, why?
One source at the Falmer Road comprehensive, said: “They wear a shirt over leggings.

“But they are not thick leggings. They are like tights so you can see their pants.

“It’s not all girls, just some.”
So, deal with those girls. How hard is that?
Headteacher Haydn Stride said in a newsletter to parents that skinny fit trousers had become more of a problem since the introduction of a standard skirt last September.

He said: “If trousers are not appropriate then students may be sent home and parent/carers will need to buy alternative trousers."
Splendid! Tackling the problem, rather than slapping a blanket ban on something.

But you might want to beware the problem experienced by other schools:
A school may ban girls from wearing skirts because they often look like they are 'going to a nightclub'.

Girls at Tewkesbury School in Gloucestershire could be forced to wear trousers as part of a move to stamp out sloppy dress.
And will they then turn to skinny-fit trousers?

Probably, as they’ll have the same effect:
Headteacher John Reilly complains some are wearing them so short they are 'almost like belts’.
Well, trousers aren’t necessarily going to be any better…

Sic transit gloria mundi. At my very expensive public school in the 80's, girls were specifically enjoined to wear skirts rather than trousers (with a dispensation given during truly inclement weather) so that they would not look like frightful slappers.

The only solution to this one is to specify the exact skirts or trousers required - as in the old days of schools using a particular uniform shop (many private schools still do).

A school I know of tried to get round this problem by requiring pupils to wear 'clothing suitable for a work environment'.

And so they did - assuming that the workplace in question was a surf shack or Spearmint Rhino.

Cue a very hasty rethink by the management and a strict and prescriptive policy within a week.

Especially not those worn half way down the buttocks to show cheap underpants. Or skimpy thong tops.

Little Miss P's school requires a skirt, and that it must be of sufficient length that, when the girl is kneeling, the fabric must be within a certain distance of the floor.

Simple, measurable, clear. It's not that difficult...

Provided - as Macheath and Patently point out - clear instructions about length are given that should be sufficient.

"Mr Stride ? .. Trousers ? "

I didn't notice that! :)

LOL!

"Especially not those worn half way down the buttocks to show cheap underpants."

That is just the most unattractive fashion ever.

"...of sufficient length that, when the girl is kneeling, the fabric must be within a certain distance of the floor. "

Now there's a good way of doing it!
