Local Councils: Now, They Really Are Taking The...

...bio-fertiliser:
If you ever tempted to remonstrate with a drunken young man relieving himself by the side of the street late one night, be warned - he might just be doing his bit for the environment.

New 'wheelie bin urinals' are to be placed around a town which has been deluged by drinkers relieving themselves in the street.

The new breed of public toilets will allow men to urinate into a funnel that transfers the liquid into a compartment in the base where it is converted into bio-fertiliser.
Sounds great!

I'm sure drunken young men will be easily able, in the dead of night, to distinguish between this and any other bin.

Oh. Wait...

Nothing new under the sun. Ancient Rome had public urinals that fed dirrectly to laundries who used the pish as a cleaning agent because of the ammonia content.

I object to the sexist nature of this article. There's no reason why women can't stand next to men and do their bit for Gaia.

I know Julia will be keen to resume this practice after her injury

Reminds me of a time in my youth, (a very long time ago), where I was absolutly ratted and relieving myself in a shop doorway on the front in Weymouth.

One of the local constabulary crept up behind me and, grabbing hold of my shoulders, spun me round to face him. Since I was young and bladdered, I was peeing like a horse and the result was I peed all over his feet. He was not amused, though his mate was trying hard not to giggle.

My friends managed to smuggle me onto the back of the coach, (we were on a trip), and fortunately I escaped a night in the cells.

Now, there's an opportunity for an aspiring businessman! ;)

"...fortunately I escaped a night in the cells."

It's OK though, only council employees have to empty them out. Unless, of course, they make the owners criminally liable for them not containing urine...

Nah, that'll never happen!

I plan to leave my browser history to the British Library. It'll keep social historians boggling for centuries.
