It's That 10% That'll Kill You...

...every time:
Paul Tuckey said that despite being colourblind he was '90 per cent sure' of which mushrooms were safe and which were not.
10 out of 10 for the Isle of Wight Coroner, though:

Isle of Wight coroner John Matthews recorded a verdict of accidental death at the inquest in Newport

...

'I do not think it would be appropriate to put up signs everywhere warning about mushrooms as it is a well known hazard and you do take a risk when you eat anything that grows in the wild.

'The answer is to never do it at all.'

Signs going up in all parks and botanic gardens regardless in 5..4..3...

...and cue inevitable faceslap comment : "If these mushrooms are so deadly why are they on public display waiting for someone to pick & try them, ie. children?

Why cann't they be grown behind glass out of harms way where people can see but cann't touch?

Simple but then the best ideas always are."

"There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive.”

I reckon you should be ok with 90%.

(BTW I know I’m being pedantic, it’s a Mail headline, the phrase is in common use and correctly understood. Still... I was myself corrected by a teacher over this:

The headline runs “...mushrooms she thought were edible...”

For the benefit of any readers worried about eating wild mushrooms: death caps are erfectly edible. It’s important part of why they kill so many. They are reputedly even rather tasty, though it’s still probably best to try to give them a miss.)

Aw sod it. What bad luck for it to be in bold and italic.

Frankly a bit annoyed by coroners "don't pick wild mushrooms" conclusion. But then I like mushrooms and know what I'm doing. It's not the signs but a load of regulation to stop us gathering fungi that will happem, trust me.

Here's some common sense:
