Be On The Lookout For...

..shhhh, you know who:
Police are refusing to reveal the identities of sex offenders who are on the run - because it would be an invasion of their privacy.
/facepalm

No, sorry, this isn't an April 1st story either...

And in a prime example of opening PR-primed mouth without engaging brain:
Detective Superintendent Steve Wade, head of Northumbria Police's public protection unit, said: 'Public safety is paramount, so I must stress that whenever a sex offender fails to comply with notification requirements or is otherwise reported missing, every effort is made to trace their whereabouts.

'We use a number of methods to trace missing sex offenders and all persons who are wanted for offences, but we do not make our techniques public in case that compromises operational policing and possibly alerts offenders who may not otherwise realise that they are being sought.'
Which doesn't seem to unduly worry Greater Manchester Police, with their 'Most Wanted' website. Or Staffordshire Police, with their appeal. Or...

Ah, you get the picture, I'm sure. Or, if you're in Northumbria, not!

Okaaaay.

Here's how they do it in East Yorkshire

Go on, tell me you didn't laugh?

"A PAEDOPHILE went on a dangerous 15-mile car chase across East Yorkshire to escape police.

He was pursued by seven police cars, an armed response unit and the force helicopter.

It was then that he lost control of his car and crashed through the grounds of Wheeler Street PRIMARY SCHOOL."

Good work Mr Plod. That's another kiddy fiddler off the streets - literally.

In our part of the world we've come to expect this sort of thing from the Northumberland plods. They are, after all, the force that got an award for killing somebody.

I wonder what they are getting for letting kiddie-fiddlers run around?

Actually, I should correct one thing in my comment above:

The 'kiddy fiddler' was actually charged with downloading indecent images. I know many will say that's the same thing but its not.

Which makes the armed response, 7 traffic cars, force helicopter and high-speed chase during daylight hours all the more like over-kill (excuse the pun).

Funny how you never see these tactics used against, oh, murderers, armed robbers and actual child abusers?

"...an armed response unit..."

?

I thought they needed a credible threat that guns were involved before they sent them?

"They are, after all, the force that got an award for killing somebody."

How to upset the public AND your own members!

"Funny how you never see these tactics used against, oh, murderers, armed robbers and actual child abusers?"

Or yobs hanging around making the lives of pensioners and the mentally slow just that bit more unpleasant...
