When Did The Aussies Lose Their Sense Of Humour?

Australia's new tourism advertisement aimed at boosting falling numbers of overseas visitors has been mocked by a 'look-alike' website drawing attention to events that shocked the nation.

Tourism chiefs came up with the idea of the simple slogan 'There's Nothing Like Australia' - but a spoof website designed by pranksters in the U.S. features events such as the disappearance of baby Azaria Chamberlain and the moment that the late Steve Irwin held his baby son while he fed a crocodile.

Furious officials at Tourism Australia are now trying to track down the creator of the nothinglikeaustralia.net website with a view to taking legal action.
Strewth, Bruce!

Australians, sense of humour, you're going for the hyperbole and oxymorons today AP?

They take their invented and illusory self-image ridiculously seriously. No correction or questioning allowed.

They are also furious about Robin Williams saying that "Australians are just red neck English people"

The Aussie sense of humour only goes so far as dishing it out, they really are terrible at taking it either in humour or defeat.

Chuckles: what hurt us was being called English. Red kneck is fine.

I too suffer from red kneckers - too much nude sunbathing, methinks.

If you visit the Angry People In Local Newspapers Blog you'll soon note that the Aussies are the second most unjustifiably angry nation in the world. After the English.

So it would appear!

"...they really are terrible at taking it either in humour or defeat."

But legal action? Good lord!

Oh, that site is a beaut!

To take legal action they would have to prove the stories are not true. They will find THAT hard to do when 90% of the civilised world has seen that stupid git trying to feed his bastard to the crocs on their T.Vs.

Rather than suing the makers of the ad, can't Krudd just block the site?

I hear it's all the rage in Crim Land these days.
