"OK, The First 200 Chances Didn't Change Him, But Let's Not Give Up Hope, Eh?"

...Judge Colin Burn wanted to consider ways of giving him a non-custodial sentence for his latest crimes so he can get help changing his ways.
Newsflash, you bewigged old fool! He doesn't want to change his ways!

And after all, why should he? There are no consequences if he doesn't! Christ, even you should see that..
Judge Burn said of Hurst: “He has an appalling record which shows antisocial behaviour, committing mindless offences, stealing things on the spur of the moment, driving vehicles without any thought of the consequences for other people’s vehicles. Has he ever received any sort of ‘think first’ type of programme work?”
Clearly that's the ticket, eh? So, while he's on one, can he stay at your house? Under curfew?

At least then the rest of us would get a break from him and his ilk...

Actually I don't think he can, just reading that report I would say he's a casebook study of a what we used to call a sociopath and this will keep happening until either he dies or more likely someone else is killed

Agreed, except as the scrote doesn't fear the system in any way he probably won't be dissuaded even after he gets out of his obligatory 18 months in clink.

What exactly is a mindless offence? One committed under hypnosis? Or by remote control from space aliens? Could a person be legally responsible for such an offence?

A few years on the bench in a galley pulling the oars. Lots of good fresh air and the knowledge that you are getting somewhere in your life?

And that's just for the Judge ..

Since the criminals never seem to suffer the consequences, it is time that these lunatic judges start to in their stead. I'm not going to, but of course if I wanted to, Judge Colin Burn's entire personal details could be ascertained with a minimum of Internet leg-work and published for all to see. This mugger a) was on parole and b) committed robbery (the taking of another's property with force or fear of force). Robbery can get you anything up to life. I do not see how, even if the judge were to impose the most lenient sentence possible, that a non-custodial outcome is even on the cards.

They just don't get it. Every time a case like this is reported, the ratchet gives one more little click, and the tension in the works increases just one iota. The madness and blindness of it is incredible. When the mechanism finally gives way, the backlash is going to be beyond their imagining. There will be lynchings, and not just of scrotes with 200 convictions. A fairly useful and quick way to let some strain out would be to end mandatory parole and time off for good behaviour. I'd like to see concurrent sentencing outlawed as well. Judges would wail that this was taking away their judicial independence. They were granted this independence with the proviso they would wield it sensibly. This they have failed to do, and so now, like a child who has behaved irresponsibly, their privileges should be curtailed.

@Pavlov's Cat Re "sociopath" "he doesn't want to change his ways". Probably not but then he is getting on a bit and is probably set in his ways.
Many years ago I knew, as a neighbour, a lad who was a one boy crimewave (actually the natural born leader of a small gang crimewave). He was out all night every night robbing and stealing, usually "just cars & warehouses".

Now and again they were captured by the police but thought nothing of it since they were always out on the street within a day or so.

The next step was the Local Authority Secure Accomodation (LOLS! The stories he told!) and various referrals, adjurnments, and Community Punishments which gave them another 6-12 months or so to be out of control.

Finally, after three or four years of serious criminality they each in turn went down for "3 years" H.M.Y.O.I. which was what they had expected from about age 9+3/4 and which held no fear for them whatsoever since their older mates would already be there to show them the ropes.

Back O/T The one I knew insisted that his prison psychiatrist showed ME his psy report rather than his mum (which was slightly irregular but his legal aid lawyer agreed). I read though it and agreed with him point by point "Yup, that's him".

He labelled him "Sociopath" which I subsequently looked up and which you may now Google.
But he was wrong; after 18 months the lad emerged from HMYOI exactly the same person, got himself a job, found a girfriend and a home and has been a model citizen (almost) ever since, just as he had always planned.
That result was nothing whatever to do with the Criminal justice System.

You smash a man's head onto the pavement, while robbing him, then you intended to do him serious or rather 'grievous'-to put it in 'legals'-harm. No ifs or buts. You were trying to knock him unconscious, if not kill him.

Or as the German legal system puts it 'you were not disagreeable to the idea of him dying'.

No different to smacking him in the face with a brick.

How the fuck did that fly as ABH?

But they can't, Julia, they simply can't. There's no common sense any more.

We need the stocks to be re-introduced and if that fails, the chain gang on (very)hard labour.

Dire - until they can't be put back amongst the people they victimise we'll see no change. We should consider sending them to sea under a strict regime and for no pay.

Send them to sea in what ?

With the damage begun by Labour & continued by the Coagulation, the RN will soon be reduced to the small flotilla of boats on the Serpentine .. with the First Sea Lord's office in the ticket seller's hut ..

and he'll be wearing a grubby t-shirt with " A Present From The Malvinas" on it....

Not that any politician since Little Johnny Major would have had the bottle to defend the Islands even if we still had a navy.

Indeed.

SNORK!

"Judges would wail that this was taking away their judicial independence. They were granted this independence with the proviso they would wield it sensibly. This they have failed to do, and so now, like a child who has behaved irresponsibly, their privileges should be curtailed."

Well said.

"How the fuck did that fly as ABH?"

Chalk it up to the CPS. We now seem to have the US style of 'plea bargaining' by the back door, driven by laziness and an eye on the conviction rate.

If only we could find that trigger and replicate it...

"We should consider sending them to sea under a strict regime and for no pay."

We need a new penal colony! We can always point to Australia to show how that often works out in the end... ;)

He isn't 'anti-social'. He is a violent and dangerous criminal. And this fucking judge is as reckless and dangerous as he is.

My pet solution(which has my children's eyes rolling) to repaying a debt to society is to organise low cost power stations, fuelled entirely by the pedal power of the scrote class, driving dynamos at times of peak demand.
Advantages: We're going to run out of power and all the other solutions are expensive. It will keep them off the streets in the evening. They'll be too tired to be thugs. We'll be tackling the obesity epidemic. The sentences should be phrased in terms of Watts generated to discourage slacking. There are lots of them so the price of electricity should come down. It's green enough for our lords and masters to get a frisson of smugness in implementing it.
