Darwen – UK Capital Of Dependency?

Parents have hit-out over a lack of bonfire events in Darwen.
‘Hit out’ at whom?

Why, the council of course! From whom all largesse originates, and who are even responsible for these people’s entertainment now!
Since a gala committee-run event in Bold Venture Park was cancelled over a decade ago, families say they have no option but to travel out of town or pay to attend a privately-run event.
So, basically, the option is to shift your lazy arse a bit further or pay out of your own pocket?

What awful injustice!
A mother of two young children from the Springvale area said: “The event at Bold Venture was very popular, but now there’s only pub events or ones you’ve got to pay to enter.

“I don’t really want to be taking my children to a pub, and I’ve had to pay out £17 for four of us to attend a private display in Hoddlesden.

“There is a big free-to-attend event in Witton Park, but why should we have to travel out of town to Blackburn?”
BECAUSE THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH, YOU PARASITE!!!

*deep breath*

That’s better. Luckily, some of the councillors are sensible:
Councillor Damian Talbot of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: "We don't organise bonfires. The one at Witton Park, which is designed to be for the entire borough, is organised by the Blackburn Lions and Rotary Club and we support them.

“Given the tough financial climate we have to ensure money is being spent where it is needed most."
And some are not:
Councillor Steve Duncan, leader of Darwen Town Council, said he will raise the idea of funding an event next year with fellow members.

He said: “The problem with these events is the insurance and health and safety rules that go with them.

“I'll raise at the next development meeting to see what feeling is.”
If the ‘feeling’ is anything other than disgust at these freeloading parasites, it’s the wrong one…

Don't the chavs see enough 'splosions on their HD plasma TV screens the rest of the year?

In any event, round where I live the Beirut impression starts about mid August, with chavs and chavettes letting off loud fireworks (and most fireworks these days are airborne bigga da bang types rather than pretty sparkles) at two in the morning. Now if the freeloader families instead of handing tenners to their kids for late-night fun and saved their pennies for nearer November 5th they could go to paid-for events.

You're not getting the full story here. I can't speak for Darwin as I've never lived there, but I suspect it's the usual story of "Jobsworths" down the townhall and officious over application of "Elf'n'safety".

What used to happen was weeks before bonfire night all the local kids would be out rounding up anything that burned, people would get rid of that old sofa, bed or crappy MFI wardrobe that fell to bits within 6 weeks of building it up. Pile it all on the piece of waste ground down the bottom of the road and come Nov 5th, burn it all and have a good time.

Now on Nov 4th, both the police and overpaid officious cunts from the council turn up and take it all away, saying "It's council land, elf'n'safety, we could be liable, etc etc.

Except it isn't "Council land", it's our land. The council are paid vast amounts to administer it on our behalf.

So councils decided they would have "Organised events" instead of loads of smaller bonfires, they'd organise a big one for everyone.

Now the council in Darwin would appear to be wanting to welch on their side of the deal.

Not quite the "Want something for nothing" story portrayed is it?

Indeed!

" I can't speak for Darwin as I've never lived there, but I suspect it's the usual story of "Jobsworths" down the townhall and officious over application of "Elf'n'safety"."

Oh, I've no doubt that's the cause of it, as one of the councillors mentions. The point is, though, this woman objects to spending her own money on her kid's entertainment; it should be 'free', from the council!

"Not quite the "Want something for nothing" story portrayed is it?"

Well, yes, actually. What's wrong with her buying her own fireworks, or clubbing together with her neighbours?

Yes, it'd be a smaller display, but hey, bigger isn't always better...

Slightly on a tangent, the Witton Park display in Blackburn was only free if you ignore the 'donation' of £1/adult & 50p per child you were required to pay.
Makes it more of an admission fee than a donation in my book - these bastards cannot be allowed to keep changing what words mean.

Oh aye, the silly bint in Darwen wants to just get to fuck.
