Having a boob job is not like having a tooth pulled.Well, thanks for that. And who better to take such advice from, than the nation's premier tit?
But what makes women undergo such medical indignities, Laurie? Vanity? Too much time on their hands?
Among the very worst things contemporary capitalism does to women is its manipulation of our desire for independence, our legitimate longing to be confident and respected, in order to sell us shoes, handbags and dangerous medical procedures.Oh. Of course. It's capitalism. Silly me...

I think she has a point with the "Contemporary Capitalism" claim, although I've a feeling her reasoning to reach this conclusion is somewhat flawed.
Well, maybe she has a point, but men are tempted just as much with shiny gizmos. Only I suppose it's mainly men who benefit from women having boob jobs, for women as a whole, boob jobs are probably a negative sum game.
However, when I saw your headline, I thought you'd be referring to her earlier fine work in which she slags off and then praises the US insurance based medical system without missing a bear, truly a classic of the genre.
"beat" not "bear", obviously.
I can't trace the full quote, but I once read
"Advertising takes away a woman's love for herself - and then sells it back to her for the price of the latest fashions".
Those who understand this are free. Those who don't are fashion victims.
Capitalism = Satan.
I wonder what she equates to Jehovah?
I reguarly read the New Statesman online, know our enemy and all that,it is hilarious.Laurie Penny is the worst of a poor lot but she really believes what she writes.
Jaded
It's a pity that the company who supplied the implants has gone tits up. I take it there is no regulator who would keep abreast of things on the womens behalf.
I think the French government may have boobed by agreeing to pay for the replacement or removal of the implants.
The woman in the Guardian? Leaps to amazing conclusion which fit with her view of the world. Neither wonder the Guardian is loosing readers hand over fist.
I suprised she didn't blame Thatcher.
BTW Men don't like them. They look ridiculous and feel even worse.
Laurie "Dip 'n Dazzle" Penny .. she can always be relied upon to provide a good laugh .. ;)
Reading Penny Dreadful is like watching a little girl at a birthday party full of adults doing a cartwheel and showing her knickers. Then expecting you to applaud.
Is she Johann Hari in drag?
I like the assumption that women are helpless creatures vulnerable to all persuasion and adevertising.
Rather than cunning and devious creatures who know how to manipulate men to their best advantage.
"...although I've a feeling her reasoning to reach this conclusion is somewhat flawed."
That tends to go for pretty much everything she opines on.
"... truly a classic of the genre."
Every gem from Laurie is a classic... ;)
"Those who understand this are free. Those who don't are fashion victims."
Thank god. I'm free!
"I wonder what she equates to Jehovah?"
I think we'll find it too ends in 'ism'.

I'm never quite sure she does.

:D

Sadly, enough do that it's worth her while to keep doing it.

Does it start with "j"?
At least the Guardian have given a boob a job.
