Ishan Dave, defending, said that Habib was in the area at the time and saw looters. But do we have any evidence that she has these ‘thinking skills difficulties’?
He said: 'Her son began crying for some toys and she went into the shop.
‘She picked up the box in an opportunistic and unplanned manner.
‘She understands she made a mistake. She is very impressionable young woman with thinking skills difficulties who needs considerable care and support.’
He also claimed the box was empty.Ah. Right. Yeah, that’ll be what I was looking for….
Habib, from Canning Town, admitted burglary and was given an eight month sentence suspended for 18 months, given a curfew keeping her at home between 8pm and 6am, told to complete 20 days activities with probation services and 40 hours unpaid work. That’ll teach her!
And I pity the child. No doubt it’ll be featuring on my blog in a few years time…

"thinking skills difficulties"
Wha…?
Thinking skill difficulties? That's a new one on me Julia. Must remember that one.
o/t Angry People has a significant story today about the theft of catalytic converters.

I've been getting some industry opinion on this and the main scrap dealers don't want to have anything to do with it. They routinely have video security now and won't buy from anyone who isn't prepared to be identified by video, vehicle registration etc.
They say they aren't being offered the gear now (they once were) and the gangs automatically put the stolen material in to containers and ship it out.
If the police want to crack it, they are going to have to face the fact that it means targetting certain nationalities (that is going to be intrinsically discriminatory) and find the containers and their routes out of the country.
On the plus side, it seems to be quite organized - they have to arrange collection, distribution and payment - so if the police can catch one gang they may crack an entire network.
I believe "thinking skills difficulties" equals "thick" in old money.
Also... "There are circumstances which allow me to suspend the sentence I am going to pass" ... I do wonder what those were.
Is there a special, secret school for lawyers, to teach them the most ridiculous mitigation claims ?
I think we need to know ..
"20 days activities with probation services"
Why do they make that sound suspiciously like something fun ?
'Thinking skills difficulties' would apply to many socialists and lefty journalists.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas to all who have some thinking skills.
"Thinking skills difficulties"
Is that lawyer speak for "Thick as fuck"?
"Wha…?"
Boggles the mind, doesn't it? As Jiks and Andy point out, it's the new 'thick'.
"Must remember that one."
I don't think we ever get a chance to use it. We never get in these situations!
"...the gangs automatically put the stolen material in to containers and ship it out."
Interesting! Should be easy to rope in UKBA to the party, then?
"Why do they make that sound suspiciously like something fun ?"
They do, don't they?
