Questions To Which The Answer Is A Resounding ‘No’…

Glasgow, Liverpool, Derry... could Southend be next on the UK’s list of cultural capitals?
Followed by a ‘Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha’ and a 'No, stop, you're killing me!' into the bargain…
prominent faces in Southend’s cultural scene believe they can mount a stronger campaign this time.
Colette Bailey, managing director of art “laboratory” Metal (Ed: Is there an ‘n’ missing..?) in Chalkwell, said: “We are in a much better position now than we were before.
“The cultural offerings in Southend are constantly developing and evolving.
“ I'm certain we could offer something really different that would capture the imagination.”
Hmmm.
It is a view shared by Paul Cotgrove, whose White Bus film company organises the annual Southend Film Festival.
He said: “Southend is certainly becoming a town that is spilling over with culture, what with its art trail, numerous galleries and arts organisations, vibrant music scene, film festivals and theatres.
“With all this to offer, it comes as no surprise that property prices are rising higher in Southend than any other place in the country.”
Ah, yes. That ‘vibrant’ music scene. Such a draw for the tourists...

I remember Barry Humphries alter-ego Sir Les Patterson saying (slurring?) "We've got culture in Australia, ladies and gentlemen. We've got culture up to our arseholes..."

Local Govt and Quango non-jobs producing hot air and nice plump wages packets for the incumbents, but naff-all else. Given that 20% approx of the national workforce is public sector (may God help us), it'd be interesting to see what percentage of the public sector workforce is employed in this kind of pointless make-work. A starting point would be any job with 'Arts', 'Diversity', or 'Outreach' in the title. Give 'em all a hi-vis jacket and a spade and get them clearing up the crap from the motorway verges.

It was all Arts Labs in the 60's and 70's, as if somehow the crap culture came from test tubes and Petri dishes. Now it is all Arts Workshops, as if these places a filled with folk wielding hammers and chisels. Gettin down wid da working class, who are no longer working but watching their Plasma screens and surfing Facebook.
