A teenager has died after being stabbed in south London. So far, so terribly ordinary for 2008 in the UK. But this struck me as highly unusual for a murder:
The 18-year-old was found with a stab wound to the stomach by police called to reports of an assault in Guildford Road, South Lambeth.
He was taken to hospital, but died about an hour later. The area was sealed off and forensic experts have been examining a car in Guildford Road.
People living in the street where the victim was found have not been allowed back into their homes.Come again? Just because you live on the same street where a murder has been committed, the police now have the authority to order the residents to leave their homes...?
Why, exactly - for their convenience? And who the hell gave them those powers?
