I'm A Little Confused...

...which one is the teacher, and which one the four-year-old?
Parents were horrified when they later saw a message on Miss Judge's social networking site, which allegedly read: 'How funny it was that Faye was crying under the thinking tree, it was nuff funny lol lol lol.'
Predictably, there's outrage that a teacher felt she had a right to free speech outside school hours.

Not a lot of outrage at the fact that she apparantly writes like a four-year-old herself, though, which is rather strange...
Complaints were made to the headteacher at Lowerhouses Church of England Junior and Infant School in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and Miss Judge was suspended pending disciplinary action.
That hasn't satisfied the mother of little Faye, who is determined to show her daughter that you only get what you want in life by stamping your feet, screaming, and running to the papers...
Miss McDonnell, a jobless single mother, said her daughter was recently diagnosed with laryngitis and the school was aware of her condition which effects her breathing in certain situations.

Commenting on the 'punishment' incident in February, she said: 'If the children do something wrong they have to go and sit under the thinking tree, a paper tree on the wall.

They have to think about what they did wrong. It's supposed to be a positive thing rather than just telling the child off.

'Miss Judge sent Faye to sit under the tree. Faye says she didn't do anything wrong but Miss Judge didn't allow her to explain herself. She had to stand there for three or four minutes.'
Yup, teachers are not allowed to discipline children now without giving them an opportunity to 'explain themselves'...

And we wonder why the country's a basket case?

Who's "we"?

I don't wonder. I know.

And I eagerly await the day ...

Right of the teaching assistant to 'free speech' out of school hours - yes. Giving the little girl the standard punishment for misbehaving - yes. However, discussing something that happened in the classroom on a social networking site & apparently jeering at the little girl for crying - no! I'm currently doing a teacher training course for Ad Ed & they really big up confidentiality etc & keeping what happens in the classroom, within the classroom.
The fact that the stupid woman also suffers from illiteracy would seem to show that she's in the wrong job anyway.

Anyone who writes "lol" after something that they have written should be publicly executed.

"Under the thinking tree". WTF!!??

A GOOD slapped arse and three hours behind the black board was what WE got for a "first offence".

Bloody scumbag teachers. No wonder the arsehole scum they turn out have no damn discipline, and continue to wreck the society which gives the bastards everything for free, with "no ties".

A Damn WHIP accross their back is the only thing that will bring them into line, NOT a bloody "thinking tree".

Ross. Not HALF as much as the total pricks I have heard SAYING it at the end of a sentence they find "witty".

Bloody whip THEM as well.

I understand from the Cons that the discipline responsibility is going back to head teachers. Along with the birch, I sincerely hope.

Worked for me. Hasn't turned me into a cynical old bastard, has it?

Nothing wrong with being a cynical old bastard. I just happen to be a cynical old bastard that has never even had a parking ticket, let alone beaten a neighbour to death for asking me to keep quiet.

So aye, it DOES work.

I've never paid a parking fine either. That's near enough.

I've never beaten a neighbour to death.

We're supposed to look out for our neighbours, especially in the bad weather we've had.

My 80 year old neighbour hasn't visited me at all this year. In fact, the lazy cow hasn't taken her milk in for a fortnight. Don't know what the country's coming to.

Got to disagree on letting the kid explain herself - even at 4 it's nice to be able to explain yourself, even if punishment may still follow...

Instilling a sense that the system is reasonable, but won't be bullshitted is quite a valuable trait.

Its when they feel they can't be punished there is a problem

What sort of parent spends their evenings trawling through their kids' teacher's networking sites?

And a teacher would have to be several crayons short of a set to put such a site up for parents (and pupils) to view at all, let alone actually naming a child on it in such a crass way.

And if little Faye's a chip off the old block, what's the betting she wasn't quite as blameless as she made out?

Let's face it, no-one comes out of this story well at all.

I recall riding on the bus one day from Bristol to Wells. One of the tyres was punctured and we had to wait for a relief bus. The only other passenger on this socially useful service enquired of the driver...

"How long's it gonna be? It's me first day at work, innit, so I'm gonna look, like, really shit, inni?"

The driver replied

"Oh really? What do you do?"

"I'm, like, a teacher, inni?"

Stunned silence.

Yes, there's no doubt she was stupid there. It shouldn't be beyond anyone's ability to anonymise the details, if you plan to blog about work affairs.

"Anyone who writes "lol" after something that they have written should be publicly executed."

ROFL! ;)

"..."Under the thinking tree". WTF!!??..."

Yes, that was rather special<>, wasn't it?

"I understand from the Cons that the discipline responsibility is going back to head teachers."

Hmmm, election promises. Never to be trusted. I'd feel a lot happier if the Tories had some plan to tackle the ingrained progressivism in schools, rather than hope they can wave their hands and all will change...

True. But a four-year-old?

"What sort of parent spends their evenings trawling through their kids' teacher's networking sites? "

The sort that refuse to sell an adult child safety scissors, feel free to admonish total strangers for habits they disapprove of and whine about honest mistakes to the newspapers, of course!
