Maybe There’s Hope For The Church After All..?

A drug addict who stole lead from a church roof to feed his habit has been spared jail.
*sigh*
Burl, who began abusing cannabis at the age of 16 before moving onto hard drugs, was sentenced after being charged with one count of theft – a charge which can carry a prison sentence.
But no doubt, this being the church, an achingly trendy vicar will welcome the sentence as…

Oh. Hang on. Maybe not. Not this vicar, who:
called for tougher action.

He said: "They have obviously got some problems but these people don't respect anything. Society needs to respect public places.

"Other countries are laughing at us. Although prison is not the answer, and you need to spend money on them to treat them and bring them back to society, in Singapore and Australia even if you throw things you get fined.

"Police should be given more power to punish people then and there.

"These people have too much freedom and sometimes you have to be hard on people then and there.

"Ninety-eight per cent of people are law-abiding but for the two per cent they have to be given some punishment. They have to be given some discipline.

"There should be more respect for people and property."
Gosh! He almost sounds very unlike a vicar at all! How did he escape the remorseless clutches of the ‘Guardian’-reading brainwashing synod?

Well, here’s a clue:
Mr Soosainayagam, who moved to the UK from Sri Lanka 30 years ago…
All is now clear.
… added: "It is very frustrating. It is the about the 14th time this has happened. It is happening all over Croydon.
"When this happens we have to claim it on our insurance and that puts our premiums up.
"We are a charitable organisation and we don't want to be spending our money on this."
You’re absolutely spot on, my old china. Sadly, I suspect you’ll get nowhere with views like that…

With opinions like that he'll be vilified by the Guardianistas and such, but I bet his congregation love him.

God forbid but I dare say he'll have read he Bible too (as opposed to the social work pamphlets and Marxist bumph most of them obviously peruse) - could this be some Proverbs 13:24 (the old KJ Bible that is).

If more vicars showed that kind of common sense maybe the CoE wouldn't be disappearing up it's own cassock!

True enough vicar .. in fact we only need spend a very small amount of money ..

In the US, 9mm ammunition costs 15 cents per round(for new, factory- made ammo .. once-used re-loads are cheaper) which, as near as I can calculate, works out at about 9 pence per round (for new) .. and there are massive discounts for bulk purchases ..

Once a junkie, always a junkie who'll never become a useful or productive member of society, so long as his arse points down ..

Do the world a service and get rid !

I reject strongly the idea that colour plays any part in the thoughts of the average church-goer, and this proves it.

The laiety - or the members of it I've met - are all very keen on Archbishop Sentamu or would have liked Bishop Nazir-Ali to become Archbishop of Canterbury precisely because they still seem to have functioning moral compasses.

As Able says, I bet Mr Soosainayagam inspires the full confidence of his flock.

Unlike some Archbishops I could mention.

Quite! He probably reminds the older members of the vicars they used to have...

"Once a junkie, always a junkie..."

The rehab success rate isn't good, I'll grant you, but it's not 0%!

And I bet they'd love the Rev Soosainayagam too.
