A failed asylum seeker living in Nottingham was convicted of fraudulently receiving more than £14,000 in benefits. And where did it come from?
Mohammed Hossein Gholamy, 27, of Maud Street, New Basford, had denied the charges but was found guilty at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.
The court heard £8,585 was paid into his bank account during the same period he received £14,212.87 in benefits between August 2009 and June 2011.
The court heard that after being refused asylum, Gholamy made further representations about his claim in June 2009 and was banned from working while the UK Border Agency considered his additional evidence.Well, of course! What better way to go to work in the black economy than by taxi driving? I mean, it’s not like anyone ever checks who you are when they are handing out those licenses…
But after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly (Ed: With that name..?!) in June 2011, officers found documents in his possession – including vehicle registration, bank statements and a taxi licensing application – which indicated he had another income.
Have we got rid of him yet?
Gholamy was sentenced to 60 days in prison, suspended for a year.Ah. Guess not.
He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours' unpaid community work.
The UK Border Agency said it will now seek to remove Gholamy from the country if the further representations about his asylum claim are rejected.*sigh*

Worry not: he's on safe ground. No doubt his file will be lost in the miasma of the civil service or he will keep his head down just enough to not be noticed again while skimming what he can from the legals.
I despair at our inability, or unwillingness, to get rid of people who squirm their way in and literally break into the country. I have no doubt where he comes from is a living shit hole but is there any reason to turn our world into one too?
Oi!
They bloody well get thoroughly checked here! No-one gets a taxi licence from me without a full range of ID and competency tests, including language ability! They have to earn the licence the hard way, whoever they are.
That's me, above!
Compare and contrast with the expeditious deportation of Christopher Tappin to America.
It's almost as though the political will isn't there......
@Stadtler.
Good point. Very good point.
" No-one gets a taxi licence from me without a full range of ID and competency tests..."
You're very much in the minority, I'm afraid!

Amazing, isn't it?
